Job summary

Proficiency in TypeScript/Node.js, preferably with NestJS, and strong PostgreSQL data modeling and REST API experience are essential. You will contribute to distributed systems and on-call production support, growing with senior engineers.

About the role:

In the API Management group at Kong, you will build tools and services that help customers organize, publish, and secure their APIs. Working closely with Engineering and Product teams, you will develop API-focused software components that will materially impact the business of both Kong and Kong's customers. This role is a great fit for an engineer with solid backend fundamentals and TypeScript proficiency who is looking to grow your expertise in microservices and distributed systems.

What you'll do:

• Develop and maintain microservices and APIs that power API management.
• Contribute to features and initiatives within your team, collaborating with teammates and your counterparts in other teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code with comprehensive unit and integration tests.
• Participate in code reviews and design discussions, with a focus on correctness and operational reliability.
• Monitor service health and contribute to operational improvements for your team's services.
• Support your team's services in production by participating in an on-call rotation.
• Learn from and seek guidance from senior engineers to grow your technical skills.
• And any additional tasks required by your manager.

What you'll bring:

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend services.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js with experience building production services, ideally with NestJS or a similar framework.
• Solid experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL or similar), including data modeling and query design.
• Experience building or consuming REST APIs and working with third-party service integrations.
• Familiarity with distributed systems concepts including eventual consistency, idempotency, and failure handling.
• Solid computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and system design.
