Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend applications and APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
• Participate in full SDLC including requirements, design, testing, deployment, and support.

Job description

We are supporting a growing and highly innovative financial services organization in their search for a Java Engineer to join their Payments Technology team. This is an exciting opportunity for a developer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, taking ownership, and working across a broad range of technologies, projects, and business functions.

You will work closely with senior leaders, Product, Operations, Compliance, and Engineering teams to build and enhance critical payment platforms supporting ACH, Wires, Real-Time Payments (RTP), FedNow, and other modern payment networks.

We are looking for someone who is resourceful, entrepreneurial, curious, and eager to make a meaningful impact in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend applications and APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
• Participate throughout the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Collaborate with Product, Operations, Compliance, QA, and Engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable payment solutions.
• Develop and maintain integrations with banking partners, third-party providers, and internal systems.
• Contribute to highly reliable, secure, and compliant transaction-processing platforms.
• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support monitoring, observability, and operational excellence efforts in partnership with DevOps and production support teams.
• Stay current with modern technologies and contribute ideas that improve engineering practices and payment capabilities.

Work Arrangement

This is a hybrid position based in Downtown Toronto, with employees expected to work from the office 2–3 days per week.

• Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MySQL.
