7shifts, a scheduling and payroll platform, is seeking an Intermediate Software Developer, Mid-Market, to help build foundational systems for restaurant groups with multiple locations. You’ll own features end-to-end, from design to deployment, shaping data structures, permissions, and rollup reporting.

AI is part of the toolkit you’ll use daily. You’ll collaborate with product, data teams, and senior engineers, shipping high-quality code with strong ownership and clear communication.

Formación

• A degree or diploma in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• Professional experience building, deploying, and maintaining web applications and services in a team environment
• Comfort working in a greenfield codebase — you can move forward when the full picture isn't defined yet and know when to ask rather than assume
• Solid understanding of relational databases and backend development, with enough foundation to contribute meaningfully to data modeling and permissions work as it takes shape
• A proven track record of shipping high-quality code with a strong sense of ownership — you see work through to done, not just to PR open
• Clear communication, especially when things are unclear — you surface blockers early, ask good questions, and keep teammates informed
• A proactive work ethic with the ability to manage your own priorities and make sound technical trade-offs with guidance
• Experience leveraging AI development tools (e.g., Claude) as a real part of how you work, not just experimentation
• A customer-focused mindset and genuine interest in building products that solve real problems

Responsabilidades

• Build and maintain the data structures and pipelines that power rollup reporting for multi-location restaurant groups, contributing across the full stack from schema work through to delivery
• Contribute to the development of a new permissions and authorization system, implementing components as the architecture takes shape and flagging issues as you find them
• Use AI-assisted development tools as an active part of your workflow, generating, reviewing, and validating output with the same rigour you'd apply to any production code
• Collaborate with senior engineers, your product counterpart, and the data team to translate requirements into pragmatic, maintainable solutions
• Take ownership of production issues, leading the investigation and resolution of bugs and customer-reported problems
• Contribute to our engineering culture by actively participating in technical discussions and consistently improving our team's processes and standards
• Drive your work from concept to completion, making sound technical decisions and consistently delivering value to users

As an Intermediate Software Developer, Mid-Market at 7shifts, you'll be one of the founding engineers on our mid-market squad - the team responsible for building the foundational systems that serve restaurant groups with real complexity: multiple locations, layered permissions, and the need for rollup visibility across their entire operation. You're a full-cycle builder, taking features from technical design to deployment, owning your work end-to-end and making pragmatic technical decisions that ship. You'll work closely with a product counterpart, the data team, and report into a Director of Software Development. AI is part of the toolkit here — you use it actively, you know when to reach for it, and you hold the bar on what ships.

The work is greenfield in the places that count. You'll contribute to defining the data structures that power rollup reporting for multi-location operators and help build a permissions and authorization system that properly supports role-based access control (RBAC) at scale. The expectation is a beta of rollup reports delivered across a few dimensions and the architectural path for the permissions system defined and in early development. This is not a backlog of tickets. It's a chance to help shape systems used every day by over 1.5 million restaurant workers.

• Hands-on experience with data lake or warehouse tooling such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or AWS equivalents
• Background in a domain where accuracy, reliability, and real-time data were business-critical
• Experience in restaurant-tech, delivering customer-focused solutions
• Hands-on experience using Elixir in a production environment

Compensation

The base compensation range for this position is CAD $95,000 - $135,000. This range reflects the full growth path for the role, from building core skills to accomplished performance, through to role mastery. We typically target the accomplished level when hiring externally. At this level, individuals bring relevant experience in the role, demonstrate strong job-related skills, operate with confidence and consistency, and are able to deliver impact with limited ramp-up while still having meaningful opportunity to grow.

Compensation at 7shifts is performance and growth-driven. As you develop your skills and expand your impact over time, your compensation grows with you. Your specific placement within this range is based on your job-related skills, knowledge, and experience, as well as our internal equity assessment.
