Job summary

Bartech Staffing is seeking an experienced Software Engineer for a contract role in Oakville, Ontario. The position is hybrid and paid hourly at $65–$70 per hour.

The candidate will design, develop, test, and maintain software across the full lifecycle, collaborating with stakeholders to deliver scalable solutions using modern engineering practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with business stakeholders and customers to understand requirements, user needs, and technical challenges.
• Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable software applications and services.
• Create and maintain high-level software architecture and technical designs.
• Develop front-end user interfaces and back-end services, APIs, and microservices.
• Evaluate application requirements and determine appropriate technology stacks, integration approaches, and deployment strategies.
• Work closely with product owners, architects, designers, and cross-functional teams to deliver business solutions.
• Develop and implement software testing strategies, quality standards, and best practices.
• Optimize application performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
• Utilize modern software engineering practices, including Agile development methodologies, TDD, CI, and CD.
• Support security best practices, including data protection, encryption, and secure software development principles.
• Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies to improve development efficiency and product capabilities.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join a collaborative team focused on designing, developing, testing, and maintaining innovative software applications and solutions. This role requires a well-rounded engineer who can contribute across the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and architecture design through development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.

• Collaborate with business stakeholders and customers to understand requirements, user needs, and technical challenges.
• Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable software applications and services.
• Create and maintain high-level software architecture and technical designs.
• Develop front-end user interfaces and back-end services, APIs, and microservices.
• Evaluate application requirements and determine appropriate technology stacks, integration approaches, and deployment strategies.
• Work closely with product owners, architects, designers, and cross-functional teams to deliver business solutions.
• Develop and implement software testing strategies, quality standards, and best practices.
• Optimize application performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
• 6+ years of overall IT experience.
• 4+ years of hands-on software development experience.
• Proficiency in at least two programming languages or advanced proficiency in one programming language.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies and Agile practices.
• Experience designing and developing scalable software applications.
• Experience developing user interfaces and/or back-end systems, APIs, and microservices.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
