Job description

Are you excited by how AI agents are changing the way customers shop? Do you want to build the platform that brings Amazon's shopping experiences to every surface where customers meet an agent, and that lets those agents compose experiences on their own?

Our team builds the experience orchestration platform behind the Amazon store. It composes independently owned experiences into complete pages at Amazon scale and powers experiences such as Detail Page across web and app. We are looking for a Software Development Manager to build and lead a new team in Vancouver that owns agentic CX and experience orchestration interfaces. The team will extend the platform so agents can render and compose shopping experiences, and it will own the authoring language and toolchain that builders and AI agents use to create those experiences. That covers a typed, schema-generated construct library, the build pipeline that validates and synthesizes what authors write, and the evals that measure how well agents author against it.

Key job responsibilities
  • Build, lead, and grow a diverse, inclusive, high-performing engineering team, including recruiting, mentoring, motivating, promoting, and performance management.
  • Set the technical vision and roadmap for agentic CX, covering how AI agents discover, render, and compose shopping experiences.
  • Own the experience orchestration authoring language end to end. This includes schema-driven construct generation, build-time synthesis and validation, conformance testing against the runtime, and the higher-level abstractions builders use for common patterns.
  • Build evaluation pipelines that score agent-generated output against known-good results, and use them to guide how the authoring model evolves for AI-forward authoring.
  • Deliver the developer experience around the authoring model, including IDE and build integrations, linting, documentation, migration tooling, and a compatibility policy that keeps authors stable as the platform evolves.
  • Partner with product, design, and engineering teams across the store and shopping agents to turn early prototypes into launched capabilities.
  • Provide technical leadership on architecture and design, and drive deep dives to resolve the root causes of complex issues.
  • Prioritize and execute against goals on time, manage cross-team dependencies, and mitigate risks.
Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building a new team or launching a greenfield product
  • Experience building developer platforms, SDKs, languages, compilers, or infrastructure-as-code tooling such as AWS CDK
  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems, server-driven UI, or rendering and layout platforms
  • Experience with LLM-based applications, AI agents, agent protocols, or evaluating LLM output quality
  • Experience driving AI-native software development practices within an engineering team
Key job responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of software development engineers operating at the scale of the Amazon Store within an Agile environment.
  • Think big and partner with executive leadership and business stakeholders to define strategy and chart a compelling roadmap.
  • Own end-to-end management and execution against the roadmap, project plans, and delivery commitments.
  • Establish mechanisms to monitor operational excellence, consistently meeting or exceeding system SLAs (e.g., availability, latency, reliability).
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to architect and deliver the best technical design and approach for each challenge.
  • Define and cultivate an inclusive team culture that fosters individual growth and collective success.
  • Create a work environment where people have fun, do their best work, and advance in their careers.
Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of engineering experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
