Job description

Description

About the Role:

Every time a customer connects to Amazon — their request travels through infrastructure your team owns. This team, Frontier, is Amazon's front door - we sit between the public internet and Amazon's services, operating at a scale few teams in the world encounter. We own CDN orchestration, DDoS and volumetric attack defense, traffic categorization, and edge security controls across all of Amazon's internet-facing infrastructure globally, handling billions of requests daily.

As the Software Development Manager for Frontier, you will lead a team of engineers solving problems at the intersection of internet-scale infrastructure, security, and distributed systems. You will own CDN fleet management and failover automation, DDoS mitigation systems, traffic shaping and prioritization at the edge, and the standardization of security and availability controls across Amazon's public-facing surface. Your work directly determines whether customers experience Amazon as fast, available, and secure.

What You Will Do:

You will define the technical vision and roadmap for Frontier, translating business and security requirements into scalable systems that protect and accelerate Amazon at the edge. You will hire and develop engineers who understand networking, security, distributed systems, and internet infrastructure. You will drive prioritization decisions across a portfolio of products, own operational excellence for systems with zero tolerance for downtime, and partner with security, networking, and product teams across Amazon. You will set the culture and engineering bar for your team.

Who You Are:

You are a technical leader who gets excited by the complexity of operating at internet scale. You understand CDN architectures, DDoS mitigation strategies, and traffic engineering trade-offs — or you have led teams solving analogous problems in large-scale network infrastructure. You are as comfortable in a deep technical design review as you are in influencing executive stakeholders. You build strong teams, make hard prioritization calls with clarity, and hold a high bar for reliability and security.

Key job responsibilities
  • Drive prioritization and planning of projects and features
  • Thinking big and working with leadership, cross teams and business stakeholders to define vision, strategy and roadmap
  • Facilitating the design of the architecture of these distributed and highly scalable systems to solve complex problems
  • Monitoring, validation, and operation of production services
  • Owning the inputs and the business outcome through cultivating a culture of relentless auditing and metric monitoring, automatically where possible
  • Setting clear, measurable quality goals for the organization and collaborate across orgs to drive achieving them
  • Mentoring and promoting team members and help leaders to grow the organization
About the team

Frontier is Amazon's internet ingress layer — the infrastructure that stands between the public internet and every Amazon service. We own and operate CDN fleet management and failover automation, DDoS and volumetric attack mitigation, traffic categorization and shaping at the edge, and the security and availability controls that govern Amazon's entire internet-facing surface. We run at a scale that is genuinely uncommon: billions of requests per day, global infrastructure, and zero tolerance for downtime.
