Job description

Our partner is looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test II (Python) based in Canada.

Join a collaborative Platform Engineering team focused on building and scaling reliable, high-performance cloud computing infrastructure. In this role, you will help ensure the quality, scalability, and correctness of virtualized server platforms that power modern applications. You will design and maintain automated testing frameworks, strengthen deployment processes, and establish quality gates throughout the software development lifecycle. Working with Python, Linux, and modern automation tools, you will help identify potential issues before they affect production environments. You will collaborate with software engineers and cross-functional teams to improve integration testing, deployment safety, and platform reliability. This opportunity is ideal for an engineer who enjoys troubleshooting complex technical challenges and developing scalable solutions in a fast-paced environment. You will contribute to continuous innovation in cloud infrastructure while expanding your expertise in automation, virtualization, and performance engineering.

Accountabilities
  • Test Automation and Framework Development: Develop, implement, and maintain automated testing frameworks for code changes, including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, using Python and Pytest.
  • Test Strategy and Quality Assurance: Define test plans, create comprehensive test cases for microservices, and ensure appropriate coverage of functional requirements, edge cases, and platform reliability scenarios.
  • Deployment and Troubleshooting: Investigate deployment-related issues across different environments, identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and support reliable software releases.
  • Continuous Integration and Delivery: Automate testing, deployment, and validation throughout the software development lifecycle, integrating quality gates into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Deployment Safety and Rollback: Evaluate safe deployment and rollback strategies, validate operational requirements, and ensure deployment procedures meet reliability and correctness standards.
  • Infrastructure and Platform Testing: Collaborate with engineering teams on integration testing, improve testing environments, and validate platform behavior across different system architectures.
  • Scripting and Process Improvement: Write and maintain scripts that automate platform service deployments, streamline repetitive tasks, and improve engineering efficiency.
  • Performance and Reliability: Apply Linux troubleshooting and performance-tuning techniques to investigate system behavior and help maintain scalable, dependable virtualized infrastructure.
Requirements
  • Professional Experience: At least 2 years of relevant experience in software development, test automation, quality engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an equivalent qualification.
  • Python and Testing: Practical knowledge of Python and Pytest, with a solid understanding of modern software testing methodologies and automated testing practices.
  • Programming and Debugging: Familiarity with Perl and Go (Golang), along with the ability to debug code, investigate technical issues, and identify root causes.
  • Linux Expertise: Strong Linux fundamentals, particularly performance tuning, system troubleshooting, Bash, and scripting.
  • Operating Systems and Packaging: Understanding of Debian packaging, the APT package manager, dependency management, and software installation workflows.
  • Computer Architecture: Knowledge of x86 and ARM architectures and an understanding of their key differences.
  • Virtualization and Containers: Familiarity with virtualization and containerization technologies and their role in modern cloud infrastructure.
  • Automation and CI/CD Tools: Experience with automation tools and frameworks such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and SaltStack.
  • Analytical and Collaborative Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, clear communication, and the ability to collaborate with engineering teams to improve testing and deployment practices.
  • Adaptability and Ownership: A proactive approach to investigating complex technical challenges, learning new technologies, and contributing to continuous improvement in a dynamic engineering environment.
Benefits
  • Competitive Compensation: Annual base salary ranging from CAD 82,100 to CAD 147,900, depending on relevant experience, skills, certifications, and other factors.
  • Performance-Based Rewards: Potential eligibility for annual bonuses, incentive compensation, equity awards, and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
