Our vision is to deliver an employee listening system that helps build a workplace where Amazonians can invent and deliver on behalf of customers. We put employee listening data, metrics, and insights in the right places to drive high quality, high velocity, high impact decisions.

As a Software Development Engineer you will have technical ownership of the development of critical parts of this system. You will create innovative employee listening technology at Amazon scale. You\'ll join a talented and nimble team of engineers and create ways to streamline delivery. Successful candidates will be strong SDEs who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and have a consistent track record of delivery.

You will drive architectural and design choices, invent new features, develop distributed services, and build a scalable, employee listening product. We have a team culture that encourages innovation and we expect developers and management alike to take a high level of ownership for the product.

Responsibilities
  • Work with technical leaders across the org to deliver large distributed projects to delight our customers
  • Write high-quality, efficient, testable code
  • Build highly available, secure systems
  • Find out what it takes to engineer systems for "Amazon Scale"
  • Collaborate with some of the best engineers in the industry
  • Own and operate the systems that you build
  • Contribute to planning, design, implementation, testing, release, operations, and process improvement as a member of the team
  • Get firsthand experience engineering with AWS services such as Glue, Athena, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB and others

Key job responsibilities
  • Design and implement enterprise-scale software solutions that ensure optimal performance and reliability
  • Drive technical architecture decisions and system design, focusing on scalability, reliability, and performance of distributed services
  • Lead end-to-end delivery of technical solutions, including design, implementation, and verification using standard software engineering methodologies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, conduct design reviews, and ensure successful delivery of solutions
  • Develop and maintain robust frameworks, implementing security controls and compliant access patterns
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to improving team practices and standards
A day in the life

Your typical day involves architecting and building robust solutions that power critical business initiatives. You\'ll participate in technical design discussions, write and review code, and optimize existing solutions for performance and reliability. You\'ll dive deep into production issues, implement solutions that enhance system stability, and build new capabilities into our platforms. Cross-team collaboration is key, as you\'ll work closely with various teams to maintain system requirements and optimize workflows.

Work/Life Balance: We value work-life harmony and offer flexibility in working hours. While the position involves on-call responsibilities (typically one week every two months), we work to ensure our systems are fault tolerant and continuously improve our infrastructure to minimize disruptions.

The Amazon Management Experiences (AMX) team, comprising 1,400+ employees, builds innovative platforms that help Amazonians build rewarding careers. We develop and maintain key solutions including Ivy for talent management, Forte for evaluation processes, and Embark for personalized onboarding. Our team combines psychology and technology to create tools that drive actionable insights for managers and leaders.

As a Software Development Engineer II at Amazon, you will design and build robust, scalable solutions that power the world\'s largest e-commerce platform. You\'ll work on complex technical challenges that impact millions of customers globally.

Required qualifications:

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  • Bachelor\'s degree in computer science or equivalent
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • 2+ years of big data technologies such as AWS, Hadoop, Spark, Pig, Hive, Lucene/SOLR or Storm/Samza experience
