Job description

Description

Responsibilities:

• Ensure website is 100% AODA compliant.
• Perform audits of the website to identify and remediate issues related to WCAG compliance.
• Ensure all new or updated content and code conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
• Comply with AODA standards and test using Assistive Technology tools such as screen readers (JAWS, NVDA).
• Collaborate with Ministry teams to utilize OPS Toolkits for testing WCAG Level A and Level AA conformance.

Google Analytics & Knowledge Transfer

• Develop queries to generate monthly site usage reports from Google Analytics.
• Analyze site usage and recommend strategies to increase website engagement and reduce drop-offs.
• Perform SEO to enhance website visibility.
• Provide training and upskilling to ministry teams as needed.

Skills and Experience Requirements

Public Sector Experience:

• 5+ years of professional web development experience, focusing on WordPress.
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL.
• Experience developing custom WordPress themes and plugins.
• Knowledge of website deployment and hosting processes.

Accessibility Knowledge and Experience:

• Deep understanding of accessibility standards and compliance, with experience in auditing and reporting.
• Expertise in WCAG 2.2 and AODA accessibility requirements.
• Experience with accessibility testing tools and processes across various devices.
• Familiarity with tools such as JAWS, NVDA, Narrator, Voiceover, Talkback, GAT, WAT, CCA, MS Insight, AXE, WAVE, Inspect.
• Accessibility certifications like IAAP CPACC are assets.

Technical Expertise and Guidance:

• Extensive experience in WordPress development, customizations, and plugins.
• Strong skills in Google Analytics.
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL, and experience with Azure cloud platform.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and Kanban/task boards.
• Ability to identify accessibility issues and advise on improvements.

Development Skills:

• Experience in creating complex Google Analytics reports.
• Responsibility for analyzing online environments and implementing tracking codes.
• Ability to collaborate across teams and document technical details.
• Understanding of AODA and related standards.

Must Haves:

• Proven experience developing custom WordPress themes and plugins.
