Software Developer II, Full Stack Application

Safe Software is looking for a Backend Developer to join our Cloud Applications team and contribute to the development of our FME AI Service and other cloud-based products: FME Flow Hosted, FME Hub, and FME Account.

About The Team

As a member of our Cloud Applications development team, you will play a big part in designing and developing new features, as well as maintaining existing functionalities in our products. You will primarily work in Python (FastAPI and LangChain), with a willingness to learn new languages and technologies as needed. You will also contribute to support our live applications.

The team practices Agile development and utilizes Kanban boards to manage their backlog, epics and stories. As a Developer, you will regularly participate in team meetings (stand-ups, planning) and have the chance to voice your ideas and work closely with our Product Manager, UX Designer, and QA.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Backend Developer, you will:

  • Participate in the development of new functionalities by designing and developing server-side services and APIs (FastAPI).
  • Stay up to speed with developments in AI, and incorporate relevant ideas into our AI assistant's design.
  • Participate in every aspect of the development cycle, including refining specifications with the product owner, developing clean and maintainable code, writing unit and integration tests, doing code reviews, and maintaining and improving existing code.
  • Collaborate, support and share expertise with other team members.
  • Work closely with the product owner and design team to deliver a high quality and consistent user experience.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the building and delivery of our AI service to reduce query latency and improve assistant response quality.
  • Investigate, evaluate the impact and resolve anomalies and bugs in live applications.
  • As part of your progression toward the Developer III role, you will participate in the team’s on-call rotation to support live applications.
Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies

Required skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a related role.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient with Python
    • Experience working with a web framework (e.g. FastAPI, Ruby on Rails, Spring)
    • Experience in writing automated tests (unit, integration)
    • Strong, practical understanding of object-oriented programming languages, RESTful APIs, networking, and relational databases
  • You are passionate about coding, have a curious mind, and are keen to learn new tools and technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal - You are confident in your ability to communicate with the team as well as with internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills - You are able to organize your time and prioritize tasks efficiently with mature judgment.
  • You are a critical thinker and seek to solve problems by bringing new ideas forward.
  • You are resourceful and able to work well in a team-based environment.

Understanding of common client and server side vulnerabilities (e.g. OWASP Top 10).

Previous project or work experience with LLM-based applications, and familiarity with techniques such as RAG, prompt engineering, tool calling, and automated evaluations.

Experience with Docker and deploying applications on Kubernetes.

Experience working with services from a cloud provider, such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
