Job description

Meet Benevity

Benevity is the way the world does good, providing companies (and their employees) with technology to take social action on the issues they care about. Through giving, volunteering, grantmaking, employee resource groups and micro-actions, we help most of the Fortune 100 brands build better cultures and use their power for good. We’re also one of the first B Corporations in Canada, meaning we’re as committed to purpose as we are to profits. We have people working all over the world, including Canada, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and more!

Benevity is looking for a DevOps Developer to join our team. As an expert in end-to-end ownership, you'll leverage your deep knowledge of distributed systems and cloud-native infrastructure to participate in major initiatives that improve performance, scale, security, and technical maturity. You'll also be involved in incident response and contribute to department-wide efforts. An enthusiast in CI/CD, cloud deployment, and developer tooling, you'll continuously improve our infrastructure with a focus on reducing toil, and the modernization of our internal tools. Your ability to detect inefficiencies and proactively implement solutions will ensure our workflows are optimized, and that the team is able to focus on work that is driving value!

What you’ll do:

  • Manage, support and maintain cloud environments in AWS and GCP
  • Administer and troubleshoot production environments, stepping in to assist efforts to understand high impact issues and incidents
  • Influence and execute on the implementation of infrastructure and infrastructure delivery
  • Implement and maintain configuration management and infrastructure as code (IaC) using Terraform
  • Collaborate in designing and implementing security best practices throughout the development and deployment pipelines
  • Create, maintain and advance CI/CD pipelines in collaboration with delivery teams
  • Create and manage telemetry tooling and dashboards, while acting as an advocate for understanding those metrics
  • Participate in production readiness and disaster recovery planning
  • Automate deployment, scaling, and management of infrastructure using modern DevOps tools and practices
  • Participate in incident response, blameless postmortems, and production improvements that result in direct business opportunities
  • Participate in the DevOps on-call rotation to maintain Availability SLAs
  • Demonstrate what a great teammate is, and mentor others in team culture
  • During onboarding, work with our Production Support team to learn the ins and outs of Benevity’s services and ecosystem.

What you’ll bring:

  • Post-secondary diploma, certificate or degree in an IT-related discipline or the wherewithal to have obtained such things
  • The ability to participate in 24/7 coverage on-call rotation
  • Experience in the administration of Linux and/or Windows-based operating systems
  • Working knowledge of a scripting/programming language that you have used for operations automation and/or application tooling
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with AWS or GCP
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and Git, as well as Agile and DevOps principles and practices.
  • A fierce passion for availability, reliability, and short MTTR
  • Automation skills: Step Functions, SSM Documents, AWS Lambda, EventBridge, etc.
  • MySQL and MS-SQL troubleshooting experience (slow queries, data contention, traces, killing queries)
  • Demonstrated abilities with monitoring, metrics collection and log aggregation
  • Demonstrated abilities with information security best practices and tools
  • Demonstrated abilities with backup, replication, and disaster recovery strategies and tools
