Job description

Join a leading fintech company that’s democratizing finance for all.

Robinhood Markets was founded on a simple idea: that our financial markets should be accessible to all. With customers at the heart of our decisions, Robinhood and its subsidiaries and affiliates are lowering barriers and providing greater access to financial information. Together, we are building products and services that help create a financial system everyone can participate in.

With growth as the top priority...

The business is seeking curious, growth-minded thinkers to help shape our vision, structures and systems; playing a key-role as we launch into our ambitious future. If you’re invigorated by our mission, values, and drive to change the world — we’d love to have you apply.

About the team + role

Robinhood is continuing to expand our engineering presence in Toronto as we build the future of financial services. Our Data Tools team is at the heart of enabling data-driven decision making at scale by building the frameworks, libraries, and internal tools that empower data engineers to work more efficiently and reliably.

We’re looking for a Software Engineer with strong backend fundamentals and a passion for improving developer workflows in the data domain. You’ll focus on creating the building blocks that make it easier to build, operate, and maintain data pipelines and infrastructure. If you enjoy designing intuitive APIs, streamlining engineering processes, and working closely with platform users, this role is for you.

The role is located in the office location(s) listed on this job description which will align with our in-office working environment. Please connect with your recruiter for more information regarding our in-office philosophy and expectations.

What you'll do
  • Apply strong backend engineering principles to ensure the tools you build are robust, well-tested, and easy to operate.

  • Contribute to the design and evolution of shared components that abstract away complexity in areas like scheduling, data quality, and metadata management

  • Build internal tools, libraries, and APIs that simplify data pipeline development and operations.

  • Collaborate closely with data engineers, infrastructure teams, and platform engineers to identify pain points and opportunities to improve workflows.

  • Drive best practices in software development, reliability, and performance within the data tooling space.

  • Take ownership of projects from ideation to production, with an eye toward usability, security, and developer experience.
What you bring
  • A background in Computer Science or a related technical field.

  • 4+ years of software engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree or 2+ years with a Master’s degree.

  • Strong backend engineering skills with expertise in building scalable systems using Python, Go, or similar languages.

  • Familiarity with service-oriented architecture, microservices, and REST/gRPC APIs.

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • A passion for building developer tools, frameworks, or platforms.

  • Interest in the data space and a desire to make data engineering easier and more productive.

  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
Bonus Points
  • Experience working on internal developer platforms or productivity tools.

  • Experience with Druid/Pinot and Superset

  • Familiarity with data orchestration systems like Airflow or Dagster.

  • Understanding of distributed data processing technologies (e.g., Spark, Flink).

  • Contributions to open source projects in the data tooling or backend systems space.
What we offer
  • Market competitive and pay equity-focused compensation structure
  • 100% paid health insurance for employees with 90% coverage for dependents
  • Annual lifestyle wallet for personal wellness, learning and development, and more!
  • Lifetime maximum benefit for family forming and fertility benefits
  • Dedicated mental health support for employees and eligible dependents
  • Generous time away including company holidays, paid time off, sick time, parental leave, and more!
  • Lively office environment with catered meals, fully stocked kitchens, and geo-specific commuter benefits
