We analyze pay for over 10 million employees across dozens of countries, ensuring fair, defensible rewards that drive better business outcomes.

Join us in our mission to eradicate workplace inequities and help companies create workplaces where every employee is valued for who they are and the impact they make.

About The Role

We are seeking a Backend Software Developer to join our engineering team and solve technical challenges at a fast-paced startup. You will join our outbound integrations team to assist in delivering scalable engineering solutions that integrate our system with other platforms. Additionally you will grow and utilize your applied math skills to provide guidance and support to other team members as they write code and tests for statistical analysis. Your work will directly contribute to our mission of promoting fairness in the workplace.

Why This Job Is Exciting

  • Participate in the design and development of new integrations delivered to Syndio customers and partners
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of APIs that seamlessly connect to other platforms
  • Assist team members writing and testing code for math models and statistical analysis
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and product managers to solve technical challenges
  • Implement pragmatic, scalable and maintainable integration solutions

Basic Requirements

  • Software Development Experience: Experience building, supporting and maintaining APIs. Solid understanding of API design principles and patterns. Experience working with provided microservices
  • Interest in Applied Mathematics: Ability to leverage math skills to develop, test, and refine code for statistical modeling and analysis
  • Programming Proficiency: Proven backend development skills in Go. Comfortable with Python
  • Cloud Architecture: Experience developing applications on cloud platforms, such as GCP, AWS, or Azure (we use GCP)
  • Data Management: Working knowledge of data models and technologies such as PostgreSQL, Redis, and Cloud PubSub
  • Testing Methodologies: Familiarity with current testing methodologies, such as unit, integration, end to end, and service tests
  • Team Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams in a collaborative environment

Bonus Points

  • Front-end experience with a modern framework
  • Minor in Mathematics or Physics (or an interest in applied mathematics)

About You

  • You assume positive intent, are humble and eager, expect the best from yourself, value partnership over perfection, and provide grace and understanding in stressful situations.
  • You value a remote work environment and know that it requires greater intentionality on your part to build and maintain strong working relationships.
  • You currently reside within commuting distance of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Relocation is not currently offered.
    • Kindly note, you must also be eligible to work there legally, as we are NOT able to provide visa support at this time.
Why You'll Love It Here

  • Competitive Compensation. For this role our base salary is targeted at $125-145k CAD. Final offer amounts are determined by factors such as experience and expertise.
  • Syndio Equity. So you can share in Syndio’s success.
  • 20 days annually. We encourage our team to recharge when they need to, plus paid sick & safe time, compassion leave, and voting leave.
  • Pension Contribution
  • Remote-First (within commuting distance of Calgary)

Role Progression

  • First month: We'll get to know each other! You’ll understand the user problems and priorities and see how our platform can support them. You'll set up and service your development environment and be able to run the entire app and critical workflows locally. Not only that, but you'll also start handling small tickets and requests.
  • Second month: You'll deepen your understanding of our platform and the integration needs. Expect an increasing workload, and start providing input on building functionality.
  • Third month: You’ll be fully ramped up and working at full capacity! You'll share your opinions and independently execute on tasks.
