POSITION REPORTS TO: Software Engineering Supervisor

Nasittuq Corporation (from the Inuktitut word meaning “looking out from the highest point”) operates and maintains the North Warning System (NWS) - a critical joint Canada-US radar network with 47 sites across Northern Canada, a Control Centre and Support Centre located in North Bay, ON and a Contract Management Office located in Ottawa, ON.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Software Developer is responsible for design, implementation, testing, documentation, release, and maintenance of various software products. The developer will work on product development of new designs and modification of existing software to meet schedule and defined baseline requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plan and execute software development for NWS equipment; including but not limited to real time radar systems, desktop applications, PLCs, SCADA, virtualized environments, and/or other software for other Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) systems.
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve software.
  • Estimate assigned tasks and work in a schedule driven environment.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation.
  • Perform other duties/projects as assigned, to support the overall program and mission, and other initiatives of Nasittuq.
EXPERIENCE:
  • 0-3 years of working experience in a Software Development position (dependent on education).
  • Experience with compiled / scripted languages (C, C++, C#, Bash, etc).
  • Experience developing software using a structured software development model.
  • Experience developing software in Linux and/or Windows environments.
  • Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
  • Working knowledge of git or other software version control tools.
  • Familiarity with relational database concepts and SQL.
  • The ability to learn other programming languages as needed.
  • Ability to present and explain technical information to both engineers and non-technical staff.
COMPETENCIES / SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong MS Office skills.
  • Strong prioritization and multi-tasking skills, adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Exceptional ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical thinking, judgement, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work/contribute well independently and in a team environment.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with embedded systems, microprocessors, or software for custom electronics.
  • Experience creating and maintaining virtualized environments.
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Previous experience with Maximo is considered an asset.t
