Job summary

Evertz Microsystems in Burlington, Ontario, is seeking a self-driven engineer to join a highly technical team building state-of-the-art technology for a fast-moving product. You will help select the right technologies and often build first implementations in ambiguous domains.

This senior, high-ownership role offers continuous learning, cross-team collaboration, and exposure to a range of technologies from industry-standard tools to emerging standards.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of Linux experience.
• 2+ years of MVC framework experience (Vue.js, React or Angular).
• 3+ years of JavaScript and Node.js experience.
• Strong self-direction and curiosity; comfortable learning with minimal guidance.
• Solid communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional work.

Job description

We're looking for a self-driven engineer to join a highly technical team building state-of-the-art technology for a fast-moving, evolving product. This role spans dozens of disciplines, vendors, and technologies — from industry-standard tools to bleeding-edge, domain-specific systems where the only "documentation" may be a research whitepaper. You'll help choose the right technology for each problem and often be responsible for building the first implementation of something that doesn't exist yet.

This is a dynamic, high-ownership role suited to someone who wants to learn continuously and isn't intimidated by ambiguity.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, maintain, and push forward state-of-the-art technology as part of an advanced, evolving product
• Work across a wide range of programming languages and technologies, selecting the best tool for each problem alongside a highly technical team
• Collaborate across teams, vendors, and disciplines to gather requirements and translate them into actionable technical plans
• Take abstract, loosely-defined problems from concept through to finished implementation
• Independently research and prototype solutions in domains where formal documentation may not exist (e.g., working from academic whitepapers or emerging standards)
• Contribute to architecture and technology decisions as part of a collaborative, senior technical team

Qualifications:

Required:

• 2+ years of Linux experience
• 2+ years of experience with at least one MVC framework (Vue.js, React, or Angular)
• 3+ years of experience with JavaScript and Node.js
• Strong self-direction, curiosity, and comfort learning new domains with minimal guidance
• Solid communication and collaboration skills; able to work cross-functionally with other teams to gather context and drive projects forward

Nice to Have:

• 2+ years of C++ experience (used for native UI development)
• 2+ years of Java experience
• Cloud development experience, including enterprise-level Kubernetes
• Experience with low-level or embedded hardware
• Experience with broadcast technologies and standards
• Experience with distributed systems (clustering, CRDT, eventual consistency)
