Job summary

Engage People Inc. in Markham seeks a Software Architect to lead the design and implementation of business and technical software solutions.

You will collaborate with Product Manager, Project Manager, Business Analyst and engineers to translate requirements into robust architectures, set scope and deliverables, and mentor the team.

This role requires strong communication, a focus on security, and a track record of delivering scalable SaaS applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• Minimum 5 years experience with end-to-end architecture for large-scale SaaS projects.
• Proven expertise in building Enterprise Applications and Web Services at scale.
• Experience with HA, performance, scale-out, disaster recovery, and security architectures.
• Strong PHP object-oriented/modular programming and MVC frameworks (Laravel or Symfony).
• Relational database design (MySQL or equivalent) and API design (OpenAPI/JSON Schema).
• Knowledge of cloud architectures (Lambda, ECS, RDS, ElastiCache) is a plus.
• Excellent communication and ability to guide teams across tiers of enterprise apps.]

Job description

The Software Architect applies specialized knowledge to conceptualize, design, develop, configure, and implement business and technical software solutions. The Software Architect interacts with both the client and project members such as the Product Manager, Project Manager, Business Analyst, Data and Software Engineers as required, in order to gain an understanding of the business environment, technical context, and organizational strategic direction. The Software Architect defines the scope, plans, and deliverables for assigned components. The Software Architect ultimately starts with a vision and follows through with the execution of a solution.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Designs, develops and implements solutions based on current business strategies and requirements to ensure project solutions are aligned with client needs.
• Understands the big picture and the various use cases involved while crafting the solution and providing documentation.
• Identifies the appropriate software architecture for both server-side and client-side solutions to fulfil the proposed requirements.
• Engages directly with clients and business analysts to understand their objectives and requirements in order to propose solutions that meet those needs.
• Collaborates with product managers, project managers, business analysts, developers and QAs to ensure product features are built to specification by clearly communicating architecture and design concepts/guidelines.
• Works directly with the Project Managers and Product Managers to develop timelines, evaluating risk as required.
• Ensures coding standards/practices and software version control policies are adhered to.
• Coaches and mentors engineers on architectural patterns.
• Mitigates risks and problems identified in providing the solution.
• Ensures work conforms to security and quality standards (SOC2 & PCI) which includes participating in regular auditing reviews.
• Keeps an eye out for technology trends, open source projects that can be used.
• Performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 5 years experience with end-to-end architecture for large design and coordinate project teams in the SaaS industry.
• Demonstrated expertise in building Enterprise Applications, Web Services, and Management at scale is a requirement.
• Experience with Architectural patterns for High Availability, Performance, Scale Out architecture, Disaster Recovery, Security Architecture Knowledge of cloud-based architectures.
• Software development experience with PHP object oriented / modular programming.
• Experience with MVC frameworks (Laravel or Symfony).
• Understanding of relational database design (MySQL or similar), including performance and scaling considerations.
• Understanding of RESTful API design principles and API documentation standards (OpenAPI/JSON Schema).
• Experience with Cloud architecture (Lambda / ECS / RDS / ElastiCache etc.) is considered a plus.
• Ability to guide the team in all tiers of enterprise applications including front-end technologies like AngularJS, Vue.js, etc.
• Strong understanding of information technology, security, confidentiality, and privacy practices and regulations.
• Data-driven approach to identifying and demonstrating the right tools at every stage of software development to ensure code and architectural qualities are not compromised.
• Ability to prioritize and handle work to critical project timelines in a dynamic environment and develop new approaches to complex design problems.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Compensation

Annual base pay of $125,000.00-$145,000.00 CAD, depending on experience and qualifications, plus performance-based bonus.
