Responsibilities

  • Support planning, coordination, and execution of SOE, SEM, underpinning, excavation, and temporary works.
  • Develop construction sequencing, staging, logistics, access plans, means and methods, and schedules.
  • Review drawings, reports, and temporary works designs for constructability.
  • Identify constraints affecting project delivery and coordinate with designers, engineers, superintendents, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
  • Assist with developed scopes of work, technical requirements for procurement, and value engineering input.
  • Support estimating with quantities, productivity assumptions, and cost estimates.

SOE/SEM Underpinning Engineer

During the Development Phase, the SOE/SEM Underpinning Engineer will support the project working group in developing construction plans and providing technical and constructability input related to Support of Excavation (SOE), Sequential Excavation Method (SEM), underpinning, temporary works, and excavation support systems.

How will you contribute to the team?
  • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of SOE, SEM, underpinning, excavation, temporary works, and related structural support activities.
  • Assist in developing construction sequencing, staging, logistics, access plans, means and methods, and work schedules.
  • Participate in constructability reviews and provide practical construction input throughout the design development process.
  • Review drawings, specifications, technical reports, temporary works designs, shop drawings, and construction methodologies.
  • Identify design, constructability, interface, access, staging, utility, and site constraints that may affect project delivery.
  • Coordinate with designers, engineers, superintendents, subcontractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
  • Support the preparation and review of work plans, method statements, inspection and test plans, technical submissions, and construction procedures.
  • Assist with the development of scopes of work and technical requirements for subcontractor and procurement packages.
  • Support the estimating team by providing input into quantities, productivity assumptions, construction methods, equipment requirements, and cost estimates.
  • Contribute to value engineering initiatives related to design improvements, construction methods, sequencing, temporary works, and cost efficiencies.
  • Support the identification, evaluation, tracking, and mitigation of technical and construction risks.
  • Monitor field activities to ensure compliance with approved designs, specifications, contract requirements, safety standards, and quality procedures.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of instrumentation and geotechnical monitoring programs.
  • Review monitoring data and assist in identifying potential settlement, movement, deformation, groundwater, or structural concerns.
  • Escalate technical concerns and support the development of appropriate corrective or mitigation measures.
  • Assist in resolving field issues, design conflicts, constructability concerns, and unforeseen site conditions.
  • Prepare and coordinate requests for information, technical queries, field instructions, design change documentation, and non-conformance reports.
  • Participate in site inspections, coordination meetings, technical workshops, risk reviews, and progress meetings.
Education and Experience
  • Post secondary education in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in heavy civil construction including underpinning and excavation support on Heavy Civil projects including Infrastructure and rail
  • Experience in planning construction activities
  • Good project management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Salary Range

Salary range between $160K-180K, depending on experience
