Successful external applicants will be eligible to receive a one-time Signing Bonus of $7000. The position also qualifies for a Relocation Assistance of $5000. (There is a Return of Service Agreement attached to these bonuses).

Position Summary

Reporting to the Clinical Manager for IWK School Mental Health Services, the school-based clinician will work as part of the SchoolsPlus team to deliver diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultation services to children/youth, families, and staff within designated schools.

The clinician will practice the principles of CAPA (Choice and Partnership Approach), focusing on early identification and intervention for mental health and addictions issues, providing individual and group therapies, referrals, reintegration support, and education to school staff. Services will be provided throughout the year, including summer and holidays, based on needs.

Hours of Work

37.5 hours weekly, Monday-Friday, with flexibility depending on caseload.

Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Social Work
  • Registered or eligible with Nova Scotia College of Social Workers
  • At least two (2) years post-master's clinical experience with children and adolescents
  • Current CPR Level C or BLS certification within last 12 months
  • Ability to perform mental health assessments using DSM
  • Experience with psychotherapeutic approaches like CBT, solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing
  • Proven group facilitation skills
  • Training in group treatments (preferred)
  • Fluent in English and French (oral and written)
  • Training in cultural competency (preferred)
  • Experience in school settings (asset)
  • Strong interpersonal, ethical, and judgment skills
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Effective time management and organization skills
  • Commitment to family-centered care
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's license and reliable vehicle required
