Compensation : $ 37.3118 - $ 50.7666 / hour

Successful external applicants will be eligible to receive a one-time Signing Bonus of $7000. The position also qualifies for a Relocation Assistance of $5000. (There is a Return of Service Agreement attached to these bonuses).

Position Summary

Reporting to the Clinical Manager for IWK School Mental Health Services, the school-based clinician will work as part of the SchoolsPlus team to deliver diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultation services to children, youth, families, and staff within a designated Conseil Scolaire Acadien Provincial (CSAP) family of schools.

The clinician will practice the principles of CAPA (Choice and Partnership Approach), focusing on early identification and intervention for mental health and addictions issues. Responsibilities include providing individual and group therapies, referrals to Mental Health and Addictions Services, supporting reintegration to school following treatment, and offering education and consultation to school staff. The clinician will also incorporate prevention and health promotion into clinical practice, contribute to programming, and participate in evaluation research.

Services are provided throughout the year, including summer and school holidays, based on client and system needs.

Hours of Work

37.5 hours weekly, Monday to Friday, with flexibility depending on caseload.

Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Social Work required.
  • Registered or eligible for registration/licensure with Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW) required.
  • Minimum two (2) years post-masters clinical experience in child and adolescent mental health services required.
  • CPR Level C or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within the last 12 months required.
  • Ability to conduct mental health assessments using DSM formulations required.
  • Experience with psychotherapeutic approaches such as CBT, solution-focused therapy, and motivational interviewing required.
  • Proven skills in group facilitation and treatment required.
  • Training in group treatments like Connect Parenting, Incredible Years, Friends for Life, Cool Kids, COPE preferred.
  • Proficiency in English and French (oral and written) required.
  • Training in cultural competency preferred.
  • Experience working in a school setting is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, professional boundaries, judgment, empathy, teamwork, and ethical principles required.
  • Knowledge of community resources and agencies required.
  • Effective time management and disciplined self-organization required, including documentation standards.
  • Commitment to family-centered care required.
  • Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to reliable transportation required.
