The Social Worker is a member of the inter-professional Willow Network team serving Southeastern Ontario. The team provides crises intervention, assessment, consultation and treatment to individuals who are being sex trafficked or continue to experience the negative consequences of sex trafficking. Utilizing a shared care model, the team works in collaboration with community partners and police departments to improve outcomes for those involved with human trafficking.
As a member of the team, the Social Worker will utilize discipline specific skills as defined by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers (OCSWSSW). The social worker will provide crises intervention, safety planning, assessment, treatment and evaluation of individual interpersonal problems through the use of social work knowledge, skills, interventions and strategies, to assist individuals, couples and families to achieve optimum psychosocial and social functioning. The role of this social worker position is specific to utilizing expertise in anti-human trafficking initiatives to provide wrap around supports and coordination of treatment plans to individuals being sex trafficked from multiple approaches including the harm reduction approach, recovery-oriented approach, and trauma- informed practice.
Under this portfolio, the social worker will run the Providence Care Community Programs Harm Reduction Program. Using expertise in harm reduction, the social worker will facilitate the ordering, creation, and distribution of safe use kits and Naloxone. The social worker will be in charge of ensuring the program meets the requirements laid out in the MOU’s for each region. Using previous experience working within a harm reduction engagement model, the social worker will run staff trainings in harm reduction, as requested
Education & Experience
- Master’s Degree in Social Work, required.
- Current registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, required.
- Annual Completion of OCSWSSW Continuing Competence Program to provide evidence of continuing competence to practice social work, according to the guidelines set by the College.
- 2 years’ experience providing direct intervention to individuals being sex trafficked.
- 2 years’ experience working directly with clients who are actively using substances from a harm reduction model.
- 2 years experience as a community outreach clinician
- 2 years’ experience developing treatment plans and providing therapy to individuals who have a concurrent disorder (substance use disorder and mental illness), preferred.
- 2 years’ experience working directly with individuals who have a dual diagnosis, preferred.
Position Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide crises intervention, safety planning and safe exit plans to support individuals who want to be exited from sex trafficking.
- Coordinate service delivery with community partners and the Ontario Provincial Police Human Trafficking Joint Task Force
- Provide harm reduction based, trauma-informed assessment, consultation, intervention and counseling.
- Identify and draft grant applications to support ongoing funding of the Willow Network.
- Ongoing discussions with funders to demonstrate efficacy of the program
- Work with community agencies and funders to develop and implement the “Safe Beds” anti-human trafficking initiative.
- Facilitate psychoeducational groups and/or individual therapy targeted at decreasing client’s risk of harm in the community. Meeting the client’s where they are at and providing appropriate intervention to reduce their risk of being re-trafficked.
- Utilize expertise to present on human trafficking at various conferences, functions and committees
- Participate in community development
