Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. The requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Manager or designate, the Social Worker performs professional social work of advanced complexity. The role involves assisting clients and their families with complex psychosocial problems, carrying out case management and treatment functions, and extensive consultation with staff, the Ministry for Children and Families, and community agencies supporting children and families with acute and chronic health conditions.

Qualifications:

• Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from an accredited school of Social Work
• Current registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers
• Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a paediatric/psychiatric setting or related field
• Leadership and teaching experience, experience working with community agencies, knowledge of acute healthcare environment, program coordination experience, and understanding of relevant legislation such as the Mental Health Act

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

• Ability to exercise judgment and use initiative
• Training in clinical best-practice approaches to Eating Disorder Treatments
• Ability to work independently on complex matters
• Effective oral and written communication skills
