Qualifications

The salary range for this position is CAD $42.27 - $52.81 / hour.
Job Summary

The Burnaby Hospital redevelopment project is a multi-phase project that will transform the hospital into a modernized medical and surgical health care campus. Phase one is slated to open in spring 2025 and phase two in 2030.

Highlights of the two-phase redevelopment project include:

  • Expanded Emergency Department with additional treatment spaces.
  • New health care pavilion with 83 beds to support maternity, neonatal intensive care, medicine, and mental health patients.
  • New operating rooms, procedure rooms, and recovery spaces.
  • New acute care tower with 160 beds.
  • New medical imaging department.
  • New integrated BC Cancer Centre.

Burnaby Hospital plays an essential role in the community by delivering a variety of health care services, including emergency medicine, internal medicine, geriatrics, neurology, gastroenterology, palliative care, psychiatry, oncology, outpatient clinics, and an extensive surgery program.

We are currently looking to fill a Casual opportunity for a Social Worker to join the Oncology Clinic Unit at Burnaby Hospital located in Burnaby, B.C.

Detailed Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Services, provides assessment and treatment services for cancer patients. Liaises with home health units, community agencies, and caregiver support groups. Participates in educational inservices, planning, program development, and policy recommendations.


Responsibilities

  1. Conducts social and psychosocial assessments of clients and families.
  2. Provides counselling to cancer patients and their families.
  3. Provides therapeutic services such as relaxation/meditation services.
  4. Follows up and provides ongoing monitoring of complex psychosocial situations.
  5. Provides information regarding clients' psychosocial situation and participates in developing a comprehensive plan of care.
  6. Participates in team meetings and case conferences.
  7. Acts as a resource for clients and their families regarding community resources.
  8. Promotes client/family autonomy.
  9. Participates in quality improvement activities.
  10. Assists in the development of educational programs for staff and community agencies.
  11. Prepares statistics for submission to designated personnel.
  12. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Master's degree in Social Work from an approved School of Social Work, plus two (2) years' recent related clinical experience. Current full registration with the BC College of Social Workers.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of counselling skills.
  • Demonstrated specialized knowledge in cancer care.
  • Ability to conduct social and psychosocial assessments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to make effective referrals.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to facilitate group meetings.
