Position: Social Worker (MSW)

HOURS: 12 Hour Rotating Shifts

SALARY: $44.67 - $57.90

Position Summary

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Social Worker is responsible for providing a full range of client-centered clinical services. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive clinical and risk assessments, offering consultation and collaboration, coordinating care, educating clients, advocating, making appropriate referrals, facilitating discharge planning, and liaising with community partners. The Social Worker works as part of an interprofessional team to promote community treatment and collaborates with community resources to address the mental health needs of individuals. The role complies with BGH policies and the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) regulations.

The individual must maintain competence through ongoing education and provide proof of participation in such activities.

Requirements
Education/Specific Training
  • Master’s Degree in social work from an accredited institution.
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).
  • Experience in risk assessments, suicide prevention, crisis theory, and intervention.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning, evidenced by participation in relevant programs, courses, and seminars.
  • Current BCLS and CPR certification.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Prevention and Intervention Training.
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) preferred.
Experience and Knowledge
  • Minimum of 3 years in mental health, preferably in crisis or emergency settings.
  • Ability to conduct bio-psycho-social and risk assessments, and provide advocacy and referrals.
  • Crisis intervention skills for telephone and face-to-face situations.
  • Knowledge of social work services, including individual, group, and family therapy for severe mental illnesses.
  • Experience caring for patients and families experiencing trauma.
  • Proficiency in evidence-based therapies such as CBT, Narrative Therapy, DBT, and others.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including The Mental Health Act, The Social Work and Social Service Work Act, and others.
  • Understanding of community resources and programs for clients of all ages.
  • Experience working with individuals with dementia and other mental illnesses.
  • Computer literacy and understanding of health information privacy laws.
  • Sensitivity to stigma, cultural diversity, and 2SLGBTQ+ issues.
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and strong organizational skills.
  • Reliable attendance and availability.
