A leading healthcare provider in Edmonton seeks a Social Worker III - Professional Practice Lead to mentor and enhance social work services. The role involves advanced clinical services, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, and participation in quality improvement projects. The hospital offers a wide range of services, including cardiac sciences, neurosciences, surgery, medicine, critical care, burns, transplant, renal, and a vast number of ambulatory clinics. We are excited to offer the opportunity for a Social Worker III - Professional Practice Lead (PPL) to join our team. This role is ideal for an experienced Social Worker passionate about mentoring, collaborating, and encouraging positive changes to support quality patient-centered care. The PPL will work across the centralized SW team to support, develop, and enhance inpatient and ambulatory social work services, adhering to evidence-based practice, professional standards, and applicable legislation, policy, and guidelines. Responsibilities include staff support, clinical consultation, coaching, mentoring, practice development, education, scheduling, and workload management. As a key member of the leadership team, the PPL will demonstrate an advanced level of critical thinking and professional judgment, balanced with empathy and respect for diverse perspectives, to conceptualize and problem-solve for efficient and effective outcomes. The PPL will actively support the integration of social work into interdisciplinary care teams and represent the department at site, zone, and provincial meetings to advocate for social work services and resources. They will participate in initiatives and quality improvement projects to enhance social work practices across the dynamic healthcare settings.
As a Social Worker III, you will perform either advanced level assessment and treatment or act as a clinical lead. You will work with or within teams to provide healthcare services for patients with complex and multidimensional medical, psychosocial, environmental, and instrumental needs. You will provide advanced clinical services, consultation to the interprofessional team, and supervision of students and team members as assigned. You may also act as a clinical lead, providing leadership in the planning, development, and delivery of services in a specific area, as well as staff development, quality improvement, and evaluation or research activities as needed.
Master's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in social work (acute and/or ambulatory care) in a health service organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. Experience mentoring, coaching, educating peers. Demonstrated knowledge and engagement in social work services related to best practices, governance, legislation, ethics, and current issues. Demonstrated clear pattern of professional/leadership development. Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and foster collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including experience working with interdisciplinary teams. Knowledge and application of trauma-informed care. Demonstrated ability to identify, manage, and resolve conflict. Demonstrated ability to implement and facilitate program and practice change within a complex healthcare environment. Excellent critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills are essential. Proficient computer use (e.g., Microsoft Office, MS Teams).
Experience in Connect Care. Experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings is preferred. Minimum 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience within a healthcare setting is preferred. Experience representing a department or organization at the zone and/or provincial level.
