Job summary

Qualifications

Job description

As a member of the Youth Psychiatry Program, you will use best practices to provide person-centred Social Work services to transitional-aged youth and their families. This includes assessment, therapeutic intervention, and discharge planning; in collaboration with the clinical team, clients, families, and hospital and community partners.

Duties:
  • Assessment, short-term goal-focused treatment, and support to youth and their families and caregivers.
  • Provide individual, family, and group therapy following best practice standards.
  • Complete risk assessment and crisis intervention plans for clients at chronic high risk of self-harm and suicide.
  • Engage clients, families, and caregivers in clinical interventions and risk reduction strategies with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients, families, and caregivers for appropriate services and resources.
  • Collaborate, consult, and liaise with team members and community resources.
  • Provide timely and comprehensive written bio-psycho-social assessments, treatment, and discharge reports.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the theories and practices of a professional social worker.
  • Document on the clinical record according to hospital, college, and legislative standards.
  • Maintain workload measurement and data collection as required.
  • Participate and lead in research and program evaluation.
  • Participate in teaching, education, and supervision of Social Work students.
  • Attend and actively participate in monthly Social Work Peer Consultation groups and discipline meetings.
  • Keep current with hospital policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.
  • Stay updated on professional standards by reviewing current literature, attending educational events, and networking with colleagues.
  • Participate in program and discipline-specific committees and task groups.
  • Provide educational presentations to community groups.
  • Maintain flexibility in work schedule, including day and evening hours as required.
  • Work in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies, and procedures of the ROHCG.

Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Social Work is required.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of clinical Social Work experience in a mental health setting.
  • Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
  • Experience working with youth and families in a mental health setting.
  • Knowledge and experience in concurrent disorders, mood and anxiety, trauma, and evidence-based treatments.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced inter-professional clinical environment.
  • Competence to perform psychotherapy and experience utilizing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), or other modalities, with preference given to those holding certificates/certification.
  • Understanding of early onset of psychosis and other mental health issues, including substance use, in youth, in both individual and group settings.
  • Excellent knowledge of community resources related to youth and families.
  • Knowledge of recovery-based programs.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislated acts (e.g., MHA, PHIPA, The Health Care Consent Act).
  • Ability to manage and prioritize a diverse caseload.
  • High proficiency in using electronic health record systems for clinical documentation and navigation.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • English language proficiency at level A- in oral comprehension, expression, reading, and writing; bilingual (French/English) is an asset.
