Program Overview
WoodGreen's Financial Empowerment (FE) Program aims to prevent and alleviate poverty by addressing financial barriers faced by our clients. We provide free, unbiased financial counseling, education, and tax filing support to Torontonians with low income who cannot address these issues alone.
What You Will Do
- Use a client-centered, trauma-informed approach to address financial concerns.
- Stay current on financial regulations and resources relevant to low-income residents in Toronto, including income security benefits, debt and credit management, budgeting, banking, saving, and retirement planning.
- Develop and implement service plans based on clients' goals.
- Assess clients' eligibility for financial benefits.
- Assist clients in applying for government benefits and income support.
- Advocate for clients denied support and problem-solve issues.
- Prepare income tax returns and T1 adjustments.
- Maintain awareness of services available at WoodGreen and other agencies.
- Provide clients with referrals to additional resources as needed.
- Manage a client caseload as assigned.
- Keep accurate records and case notes.
- Participate in strategic planning and program development.
- Develop and deliver financial literacy workshops for clients and professionals.
- Support the Tax Clinic's development and service planning.
- Create volunteer training materials and deliver training sessions.
- Oversee the volunteer Tax Clinic, supporting volunteers and providing direct tax services when necessary.
- Provide financial information to external professionals.
- Support and train volunteers and students.
- Collect statistical data for program accountability.
What You Bring to the Team
- Bachelor's degree in social work.
- Registered Social Worker (RSW) in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
- At least 2 years of case management experience.
- Experience or volunteering in community-based or not-for-profit settings.
- Financial Counsellor Accreditation is an asset.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Self-directed, independent, and effective team collaborator.
- Experience in developing and facilitating educational workshops.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to resolve conflicts autonomously and seek support when necessary.
- Experience mentoring volunteers and students.
- Comfortable using mobile technology in field services.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
- Understanding of intersectionality related to race, age, sexuality, gender, and ability, and associated risks of poverty and homelessness.
