The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Family Intensive Outreach Services the Social Worker (Masters) is responsible for the planning and provision of treatment with children / youth and their families struggling with Disruptive Behaviour Disorders (FIOS) across the age spectrum of the MHA Program. The FIOS service provides intensive family-based interventions for children / youth and their families using the Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy Model (ESFT). As an integral member of the interprofessional team the Social Worker (Masters) is a treatment clinician responsible for providing individual and family treatment for children / youth and their families. The Clinical Social Worker provides consultation guidance and support to the service as needed and leads the clinical coordination of treatment plans for clients and families. The Social Worker (Masters) provides clinical supervision to staff promotes the provision of quality evidence-based care to clients and families paipates in service development and provides leadership to the treatment process. Clinical services are provided to the family in their homes or another location convenient to them requiring the incumbent to travel regularly within the Halifax Regional Municipality.

Hours of Work

Monday to Friday : 7.5 hour days some evening hours may be required. Travel inside and outside of HRM will be required.

Your Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Social Work required.
  • Currently licensed with or eligible to be licensed with the Nova Scotia Association of Social Workers (NSCSW) required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years related clinical experience as a Masters prepared Social Worker in the field of
  • child / adolescent mental health and addictions is required. An equivalent of clinical experience may be considered.
  • Current NVCI certification required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in providing individual and family therapy required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of disruptive behaviour disorders preferred.
  • Demonstrated theoretical knowledge and practice competency in a family systems approach preferred. Knowledge and experience in the Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy model an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in assessment and treatment of youth and families where a young person is struggling with mental health and / or addictions issues. A particular skill set in working with disruptive behaviours is an asset.
  • Recent experience in providing clinical supervision to staff / team preferred as well as demonstrated ability to consultant with other professionals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of treatment implications of mental health issues and / or addictions.
  • Working knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care preferred.
  • Understanding of and commitment to evidence-informed practice / best practices required.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interprofessional care team while effectively carrying out administrative and clinical responsibilities required.
  • Demonstrated excellent time management workload prioritization and organizational skills required.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competency in meeting IWK clinical documentation standards preferred.
  • Holds a valid minimal Class 5 Nova Scotia drivers license and reliable transportation required.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset.
