Position Summary

Reporting to the Clinical Manager, Outpatient Mental Health and Addiction Services and will be responsible to provide quality social work services congruent with the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. The registered social worker will implement a full scope of practice in clinical care areas including: psychosocial assessment, counselling, family engagement, and resource identification, facilitation of therapeutic groups, coordination and/or utilization of available resources, education, advocacy, professional development, and program planning. Practice will focus on the application of an anti-oppressive, person-centred, recovery orientated model of care for individuals with emerging, chronic mental health issues and concurrent disorders, including persons with serious and persistent mental illness.

The Crisis Counselling program is a time sensitive program designed to accommodate residents of Brant County or those affiliated with a Brant County physician and who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health issues or concerns, and who are between the ages of 5 years and 18 years of age. Therapeutic care will be provided through short term counselling practices. During the course of treatment, the client will have the opportunity to dissolve their perceived problem, participate in assessment, complete an intake, and co-create and individualized treatment plan for on-going outpatient care and/or community services, as needed.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Masters of Social Work Degree (M.S.W.) from an accredited University School of Social Work
  • Current certificate of registration with the College of Social Service and Social Work
  • Indigenous Cultural Safety Training, preferred
  • Experience working with individuals across the lifespan, including transitional aged youth and older adults.
  • Experience providing single session and Solution Focused Brief Therapy
  • Non-violent crisis intervention certificate an asset
  • Current (3 years) social work experience with providing intervention to persons with mental health and addictions issues in a counselling setting, including brief and crisis counselling modalities,

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an outpatient hospital setting preferred

Mandatory Competencies

  • Demonstrated commitment to providing services using an anti-oppressive approach as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing specific counseling modalities in individual, family and group therapies and other evidenced based modalities.
  • Certification in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as well as well-developed skills in DBT, motivational interviewing, trauma informed care, *Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
  • Provision of services to persons with addictions issues and Concurrent Disorders, including the application of the transtheoretical model of behavior change (Stages of Change).
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent clinical assessment skills, including a mental status exam
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education
  • Ability to work with persons with persistent and Serious Mental Illness (SMI).
  • Excellent organizational skills to be able to cope with a fluctuating workload
  • Experience providing crisis based counselling interventions.
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Good knowledge of community resources
