Successful external applicants may be eligible to receive a one-time Signing Bonus of up to $7000 and Relocation Assistance of $5000 if they qualify. (There is a Return of Service Agreement attached to these bonuses).

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Community Mental Health, the Masters prepared Social Worker will work as part of an interdisciplinary team within Community Mental Health in one of three community-based clinics. The Social Worker is a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team which consists of Psychologists, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, In-Home support Youth Care Workers, and Psychiatrists. Responsibilities include clinical work with children, youth, and their families, with an emphasis on individual and family therapy as well as delivery of evidence-based group interventions.

Hours of Work

Monday to Friday; 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Some evening work and flexibility required depending on caseload.

Your Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Social Work required.
  • Registered for registration with the Nova Scotia Association of Social Workers required.
  • Minimum two (2) years post-masters clinical experience working in child and adolescent mental health services required.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification (NVCI).
  • Demonstrated experience in individual/family therapy.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivery of evidence-based group interventions.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated experience in case management and community liaison.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated skills in organization and time management.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the child welfare system and knowledge of mental health disorders, including anxiety, mood, and disruptive behavior disorders.
  • Candidates must have a valid Nova Scotia Drivers License, regular use of a reliable vehicle, and appropriate insurance.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset.
