The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Community Mental Health, the Masters prepared Social Worker will work as part of an interdisciplinary team within Community Mental Health in a community-based clinic, focusing on newcomer mental health. The role involves assessment, evidence-based treatment, and intervention with children, youth, and families up to 19 years old, in ambulatory settings. Responsibilities include individual and family therapy, group interventions, and supervision of students and in-home support workers.

Hours of Work

Monday to Friday; 8:30am - 4:30pm. Some evening work and flexibility required. Travel between sites may be necessary.

Your Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Social Work
  • Registration with the Nova Scotia Association of Social Workers
  • Minimum two (2) years post-master's clinical experience in child and adolescent mental health (preferred)
  • Experience working with newcomers (preferred)
  • Knowledge of mental health disorders and needs specific to newcomer populations
  • Understanding of migration and settlement experiences
  • Cultural humility and competence
  • Experience in individual/family therapy and group interventions
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time management skills
  • Knowledge of child welfare and mental health disorders (anxiety, mood, trauma, etc.)
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification (NVCI) preferred
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License, reliable vehicle, and insurance
  • Lived experience as a newcomer (preferred)
  • Multilingual skills are an asset
