Reporting to the Clinical Coordinator, the social worker performs professional social work of moderate complexity. Responsibilities include assisting patients and families with practical and personal concerns, consulting with hospital staff and community agencies regarding psychosocial aspects of patient care, and providing short-term supportive counselling on issues such as grief, loss, diagnoses, and advance care planning. The role involves complex discharge planning and collaboration with community resources.
Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from an accredited school; Master’s degree (MSW) preferred. Current registration with the BC College of Social Workers. Relevant experience, especially in a medical setting, and demonstrated clinical competence.
This position is located at the Royal Jubilee Hospital on the Clinical Teaching Unit & General Medical Units. Experience in acute care is an asset. All social workers are Designated Responders under the Adult Guardianship Act and collaborate on child protection issues with the Ministry of Children and Families. Registration with the BC College of Social Workers is required to practice in this setting.
