Social Worker

Term Date : ASAP to November 12, 2026, or the day before the employee who is being replaced returns to work

Salary Range : $66,906.27 to $90,520.25

Location : Henlow Campus

Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (35 hours / week)

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Student Services, Financial Aid & Awards, the Social Worker is responsible for providing counselling and personal support services for MITT’s diverse student population. Working as part of an integrated student services team, the MITT Student Social Worker provides psycho/social, personal, and academic supports to help students achieve their education and career goals.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:

Counselling / Social Work

  • Provides personal and academic counselling directly to students, including referrals to external agencies and off-campus resources, emphasizing personal planning, mental/physical health, academic and career readiness, and adapting to professional work culture.
  • Develops and delivers individual and group resources considering students’ personal, emotional, and social needs within MITT policies and expectations.
  • Leads the development of student counselling and mental health strategies, addressing the needs of specific student sub-categories (e.g., international, Indigenous, mature).
  • Delivers workshops on student mental health, stress, transition topics, parenting, and family issues.
  • Leads student crisis/emergency intervention and resource development, including Mental Health First Aid and suicide prevention.
  • Collaborates with departments to review and address student support needs based on trends.
  • Maintains a schedule for student meetings, performs intake assessments, and establishes mentorship roles.
  • Maintains client notes and student files per privacy legislation and policies.

General

  • Provides information and referrals on social services, education, and employment.
  • Develops and delivers student orientation and engagement activities.
  • Organizes and maintains accurate administrative records.
  • Participates in professional development.

Required Qualifications And Experience:

  • Bachelor of Social Work and registration with the Manitoba College of Social Workers.
  • 3+ years’ experience in clinical or post-secondary settings providing risk assessment and counselling.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including Indigenous, international, and underrepresented groups.
  • Knowledge of mental health, social/emotional well-being, crisis response, and related issues.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle may be required.

Preferred Qualifications And Experience:

  • Master of Social Work (desirable).
  • Training in Mental Health First Aid, suicide prevention, CPR, Indigenous education, and reconciliation are assets.
  • Experience in post-secondary counselling or academic advising.
  • Work or personal travel outside Canada is an asset.
