Job summary

St. Mildred’s-Lightbourn School in Oakville, Ontario is seeking a compassionate Social Worker to support the social, emotional, and mental well-being of students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

You will counsel students, collaborate with divisional principals and interdisciplinary teams, and help build resilience and coping skills in a school setting. This is a temporary, part-time contract position with potential for a permanent posting.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Experience working with students is an asset.
  • Experience and comfort using Mac and Google Suite is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual/group support to students across the School (JK–Grade 12).
  • Conduct classroom presentations/workshops on self-regulation, conflict management, bullying, problem solving, and related topics.
  • Attend and contribute to Circle of Care meetings in all three School divisions.
  • Manage referrals for students and parents.
  • Attend IEP meetings when needed.
  • Facilitate restorative justice circles when conflict arises.
  • Liaise with CAS on family and student issues as they pertain to SMLS.
  • Support SMLS employees with Duty To Report CAS calls.

Temporary Part-time Position

Reports to: Principal, Junior School

Role Overview

Reporting to the Principal, Junior School, the Social Worker provides support to ensure the social and emotional wellbeing of students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. The Social Worker works closely with divisional School Principals and interdisciplinary teams to counsel students in order to resolve issues and proactively build resilience and coping skills in students. This is a temporary, part-time contract position created to address an immediate staffing need. A permanent part-time Social Worker position will be posted in the near future following a review of the role and the School's evolving needs. The incumbent in the contract role will have an opportunity to apply for the permanent position.

Experience:

SMLS' culture is highly collaborative and community-oriented. All staff are expected to participate fully in the life of the school, including attending school events which may occur on evenings or weekends from time to time (faculty participation in co-curriculars is essential).

Compensation & Terms

The expected compensation is in the range of $45/hour.
