The Grande Prairie Public School Division is seeking a Social Worker to provide services to students in a school setting. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be able to work autonomously with minimal supervision and be capable of building relationships with students. The candidate will have extensive experience in dealing with children and youth issues such as anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, dysfunctional families, sexual orientation, trauma, suicidal ideations and healthy relationships. The successful candidate will have extensive training and experience in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), solution focused therapy and working with students who have been exposed to trauma in their lives.

Duties In Part

  • Member of the GPPSD Student Services providing wraparound services to students - must work effectively and collaboratively with a team of professionals such as Directors, School Administrators and teachers, Multidisciplinary team members, mental health therapists, guidance counsellors, etc.
  • Provide comprehensive risk assessment, develop safety plans and ensure follow-up care for students that experience suicidal ideations and other self-harming behaviors
  • Provide emergent care and crisis intervention to those in immediate need
  • Provide family informed care and support to families
  • Advocate for students’ needs with teachers, administrators, parents and other professionals

Qualifications

  • Masters in Social Work Preferred or a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work combined with extensive practical experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years successful experience working as a Social Worker, with experience working in an educational context preferred
  • Registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (RSW)

  • The ability to maintain and promote confidentiality as the norm
