Maintaining a specialized/specific focus on anti-oppressive social work in Northern, rural, remote, Indigenous, and Franco-Ontarian communities, Algoma University’s Honours Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program offers students a unique opportunity to develop generalist social work skills within the context of structural, Indigenous, and feminist analysis and practice. In years three and four, students will engage in a deeper emphasis on critical thinking, reflexive practice and analysis. Complementing this learning, all students must complete an intensive field and intensive field learning component consisting of 700 hours of field placement.
Reporting to the Dean, Faculties of Humanities, Social Science, and Cross-Cultural Studies, the Social Work Field Education and Admissions Coordinatoris responsible for supporting the School of Social Work in maintaining accreditation standards related to admissions and field education, by managing student placements, ensuring competency assessment, training field supervisors, evaluating field agencies, documenting processes, collecting feedback, advising on accreditation requirements, staying informed about standards, and collaborating with field and accreditation committees. The role is essential in demonstrating compliance with accreditation standards and enhancing the overall quality of the social work program. The role is also responsible for coordinating program admissions and field challenge processes (prior learning assessment and recognition) and engaging with community stakeholders to promote education and awareness about the School of Social Work (CASWE accreditation Standards, 2021).
