The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) is seeking an experienced and passionate individual for the Social Media Manager position with PWHL Vancouver. The Social Media Manager is responsible for leading all PWHL Vancouver social media efforts including guiding strategy and posting content. This role is integral in helping grow the PWHL Vancouver fan base and support all elements of the PWHL ecosystem, including ticket sales, partnerships, and broadcast among others.
Responsibilities include development and execution of the social media and digital marketing strategy, creating engaging content on a regular basis across channels, growing a community of fans across social and digital channels, and reporting on results to inform future strategies. These responsibilities and tasks will be coordinated with and supervised by the Director, Team Business Operations, PWHL Vancouver.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Lead the development of a season-long content calendar for all team social media platforms, ensuring a balance between promotional, informative, and entertaining content.
- Create and execute a comprehensive fan engagement and community growth strategy across social and digital platforms that prioritizes fostering a vibrant online community for PWHL Vancouver fans, interaction with followers, and responding to messages and questions.
- Lead a platform-specific social content strategy for PWHL Vancouver across all social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, etc.), tailoring content to each social platform’s unique features and audiences.
- Develop creative and engaging content for all social media platforms to showcase the team's personality, achievements, and behind-the-scenes moments. This includes editing graphics and copywriting.
- Oversee and schedule the Team Photographer throughout the season, including coordinating game coverage, practice and event coverage, as well as player and merchandise shoots.
- Coordinate with the Team Videographer to develop platform-specific video content that engages fans and grows team social channels.
- Identify opportunities for growth including underutilized platforms, new platform functionalities and strategy adaptations.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging platforms to ensure the league's social media presence remains innovative and relevant.
- Collaborate with internal teams, teams within the league, and external partners to gather content and maintain a consistent brand voice.
- Collaborate with the marketing and communications teams on a regular basis to align content with overall branding and promotional initiatives.
- Lead the real-time live coverage of all games throughout the season including information, updates and highlights for each game.
- Cover team events and press conferences on team social media platforms as needed.
- Identify opportunities to amplify successful social media content and campaigns across other channels including web and digital marketing, broadcast, league channels and more.
- Uphold the league's professional image and values across all social media interactions.
- Monitor and moderate content to ensure adherence to league and team guidelines and policies, maintaining a positive online environment for fans and stakeholders. Adhere to team brand standards including look and feel, media, and brand voice.
- Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with influencers, brands, and other stakeholders to amplify PWHL Vancouver and the league's reach and impact.
- Analyze social media metrics to assess the performance of campaigns, identify trends, and make data-driven recommendations for improvement. Provide regular reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) to track social media growth and engagement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Social Media Manager, preferably in the sports or entertainment industry.
- Strong knowledge of social media platforms, trends, and best practices.
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud platforms.
- Ability to shoot and edit photo and video content.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Creative mindset with the ability to think outside the box.
- Proficient in social media analytics tools.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to cover live events.
- Ability to meet deadlines in a face-paced and dynamic environment.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
