Job description

The University of the Fraser Valley Student Union Society (SUS) is a BC Not-For-Profit Society representing and serving UFV students. The Society manages the Student Union Building and facilitates services such as the UFV U-PASS, food services, and the student health and dental plan. SUS also provides support to an active community by organizing events, overseeing clubs and association's and providing wellness and developmental programming. As the official representative body of UFV students, our mission is to be an inclusive community that provides high-quality, accessible programs and services. We are the unified voice advocating on behalf of student interests in the UFV community, ensuring each student has opportunities to thrive.

Position: Social Media Assistant

Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday to Thursday (30 hours per week)

Salary: $19.25 per hour

Duration: July 2, 2025 to August 29, 2025

Reporting to: Marketing & Communications Manager

Job Description:

As a Social Media Assistant for the UFV Student Union Society, you will play a vital role in enhancing our online presence, engaging with our student body, and promoting our mission of SUS. You will work closely with our Marketing and Communications Manager to develop and implement effective social media strategies that help us achieve our goals. This is a temporary full-time position over the summer, but the successful candidate may be offered part-time hours from September until December.

Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Community Engagement:
    • Develop and implement social media strategies to connect our community-based non-profit organization with our student body.
    • Create and curate content highlighting our not-for-profit organizations' work and promoting student engagement with their services and programs.
    • Create inclusive and accessible social media content to support initiatives that target specific groups, such as people with disabilities.
    • Promote awareness of campus clubs and associations to foster a sense of belonging and safety among students.
    • Highlight the availability of places of worship on campus through social media.
  • Content Creation:
    • Develop and execute content calendars for various social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
    • Create engaging written, visual, and video content that aligns with the organization's brand and messaging.
    • Incorporate concepts from ideation and storyboarding through to production, editing, and posting. Video editing skills and experience are valuable assets.
    • Utilize social media analytics tools to measure the effectiveness of campaigns and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Community Management:
    • Monitor and respond to comments and messages on social media platforms in a timely and professional manner.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive online community by encouraging meaningful interactions and addressing negative comments.

This temporary summer position is great for anyone looking to gain experience. The dates for which are negotiable and can be renewed if agreed upon by the employee and UFV SUS. A weekly schedule will be agreed in advance with the Communications Coordinator and, within reason, accommodate the employee’s academic schedule (if applicable).

This position is available through the Canada Summer Jobs Grant. To be eligible for this role, you must meet the government requirements of the program.

  • You must be between 15 and 30 years old;

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
