Job summary

Carlson Construction Group is seeking a Senior Project Manager in North Vancouver, BC to lead complex heavy civil and marine projects. You will oversee planning, scheduling, budgeting, and contract administration while mentoring junior staff and collaborating with clients and subcontractors.

The role requires 8–10+ years in heavy civil/marine project management, EGBC/ASTTBC eligibility, and strong MS Project skills. This on-site position offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or ASTTBC.
  • 8–10+ years of progressive project management experience in heavy civil, marine, or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of contract administration and risk management.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Project and project management software.

  • Lead planning, execution, and delivery of complex heavy civil and marine projects.
  • Develop and optimize project schedules to ensure safety, on-time, and on-budget delivery.
  • Manage project financial performance including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Prepare, negotiate, and administer contracts, subcontracts, and change orders.
  • Coordinate billing, document control, and project reporting with Project Administrators.
  • Mentor and develop Project Managers and coordinators; support business development.

Carlson Construction Group is seeking an accomplished and highly experienced Senior Project Manager to join our team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a strategic, hands‑on construction leader to oversee complex heavy civil and marine construction projects while contributing to the continued growth and innovation of one of British Columbia's most respected construction organizations.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead the planning, execution, and successful delivery of complex heavy civil and marine construction projects.
  • Plan, organize, direct, and control all phases of project operations.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize project schedules to ensure work is completed safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Manage project financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, profitability, and reporting.
  • Prepare, negotiate, and administer contracts, subcontracts, change orders, and contractual revisions.
  • Review and resolve contractual issues, including additions, deletions, claims, and dispute resolution.
  • Collaborate with Project Administrators to oversee billing, accounts receivable, document control, and project reporting.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the efficient deployment of personnel, equipment, materials, and project resources.
  • Provide technical guidance and support for complex field operations and construction methodologies.
  • Mentor and develop Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and emerging construction professionals.
  • Support business development initiatives, client retention efforts, and strategic growth opportunities.
  • Champion Carlson's commitment to Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) excellence on every project.
What You’ll Bring
Required Qualifications
  • Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.

  • Strong working knowledge of: o Heavy civil construction methods and practices
  • Strong working knowledge of: o Marine construction operations
  • Strong working knowledge of: o Cranes, barges, marine equipment, and related logistics
  • Proven success managing subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong understanding of: o Contract administration and risk management
  • Strong understanding of: o Project controls and scheduling
  • Strong understanding of: o Cost forecasting and financial management
  • Experience preparing and reviewing: o Purchase orders
  • Experience preparing and reviewing: o Change orders
  • Experience preparing and reviewing: o Project documentation and reports
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office Suite, and project management software systems.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
