Job description

Position Details

The Nakiska Patrol and Snow Safety Director (SPSSD) is a full-time seasonal supervisory position (September 15th - April 30). SPSSD manages the day-to-day and long-term operations of the department. Nakiska's patrol and snow safety team comprises 20 seasonal full-time employees, including professional patrollers, avalanche technicians, mountain dispatch, and mountain trail crew, supported by an avalanche safety contractor, volunteer Canadian Ski Patrol, medical director, and volunteer on-call physicians. SPSSD maintains the department's and company's vision while balancing operational needs. The position reports to the Nakiska General Manager and the Operations Manager.

Prerequisites
  • Professional Ski Patroller with 80-hour outdoor emergency care certification and at least 3 years of experience.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with superiors, colleagues, and staff.
  • Proficient in verbal and written English, with excellent computer skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Physically fit and capable of working outdoors in winter conditions, with advanced alpine skiing ability in all terrains and conditions.
  • Additional relevant certificates (e.g., Level 1 Avalanche, blasting ticket) are considered assets for qualified individuals.
Duties
  • Overseeing the entire Ski Patrol and Snow Safety program, including professional and volunteer staff.
  • Creating and maintaining a safe and professional environment for all mountain users.
  • Ensuring staff compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Recruiting and negotiating employment for department staff.
  • Delegating roles and responsibilities.
  • Implementing and promoting all five company core values.
  • Demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and the ability to multi-task under stress or time pressure.
  • Managing the department's budget and safety equipment.
  • Updating and assisting Nakiska Management as needed.
  • Ensuring all documentation meets professional standards.
  • Performing other relevant operational duties as assigned.
