Description

Play while you work! Join the Ski & Board School team at Big White Ski Resort, and be a part of one of the largest Ski & Board School teams in Western Canada. We offer an inclusive and positive working environment, employee incentives, exceptional instructor training, competitive hourly pay and access to almost 3,000 acres of fun, varied and powder-filled terrain.

We are currently seekingCSIA Level 2 or above (or international equivalent) ski instructors to teach across both our Adult's programs and in the Kids Centre who are available for the full winter season (approximately the beginning of December until early April). Ideal Candidates will have a number of seasons of experience teaching in an international Snow School environment, have experience teaching kids and will hold further specialist certifications including, but not limited to, a Snowboard, Freestyle or Race coach certification.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Teaching ski lessons following both the CSIA teaching methodologyand the Big White Ski & Board School’s progression levels to a range of clients of all ages in both group and private settings
  • Always working with safety in mind to safeguard guests and fellow workers
  • Planning lesson content to create a safe and fun learning experience
  • Evaluating lesson participants, completing achievement records and recommending what they can do next
  • Ensuringeffective public relations, and problem solvingas required
  • Working cooperatively and maintaining ongoing communication with other program staff
  • Takingappropriate action to deal with incidents and emergencies, as outlined in the Ski & Board School’s policies and procedures

Position requirements/skills:

  • CSIA Level 2 or above (or international equivalent), AND
  • Previous ski instructing experience, and experience working in organized settings

All applicants should submit a cover letter and resume with two contactable references and include a copy of any relevant current certifications. Preference will be given to those who also have:

  • Proficiency teaching in a second language, such as Spanish, French or Mandarin
  • CASI level 1 or above (or international equivalent)
  • CSIA Course Conductor certification
  • CSIA Snowpark or Canadian Freestyle Ski Association (CFSA) certifications
  • Experience in teaching children
  • Nordic Skiing certifications

Criminal RecordChecks:

All employees are subject to criminal record checks at Big White Ski Resort. Due to the fact that we are all dealing and working with children (defined as any persons 18 years of age or younger) on a daily basis throughout the season, it is imperative that these checks are done. It is the responsibility of the employee to provide a current criminal record check.

  • Ability to carry 40lbs/18kg while skiing/riding
  • Ability and prepared to work in extreme alpine weather conditions
  • Ability to assist a fallen skier/snowboarder back onto their feet
  • Ability to lift 40lbs/18kg
  • Ability to ski/ride for 6-7 hours a day

PLEASE NOTE: All employment offers to foreign nationals are conditional upon individuals obtaining their own valid working holiday visas for the coming winter season.

Starting wage - $23.00, plus sales incentives with increases based on relevant instructing certifications and time-based accruals.
