Job description

Our client, a leading ICI General Contractor with its head office based in Edmonton and projects covering all of Alberta, specializes in the institutional, commercial, industrial, and civil engineering sectors.

You must have a minimum of - years of industry experience in ICI, Commercial, Educational, Mixed Use High Rise developments, covering Design and Build & Interior Fit out experience. An understanding of Drawings, Architectural works, Electrical, Mechanical, and Structural works is essential. All relevant HSE permits should be up to date, and you should have been exposed to projects valued up to $ million and experienced in managing a crew of – staff.

An absolute must is that you know projects from Ground Up and have run projects from start to finish.

Objectives

Provide effective on-site field management of projects to ensure the execution of work by own staff and Subcontractors to meet or exceed our Client’s expectations of quality, safety, and delivery. Perform all functions and responsibilities in accordance with their values and beliefs.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities :
  • Ensure compliance with Company health and safety Policy and Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation for Construction Projects
  • Provide leadership to all parties on site, displaying a high level of honesty and professionalism
  • Motivate and discipline the field resources and all subtrades to complete their work safely, on time, and to an acceptable standard of quality
  • Expedite the resolution of any problems or conflicts that arise on site
  • Ensure quality plans are adhered to for all work performed
  • Work with office staff on project schedules – execute work in conjunction with same
  • Maintain good working relationships with clients, consultants, subtrades, and regulatory authorities
  • Process timesheets, purchase orders, directives, and other documentation as necessary
  • Organize regular trade meetings and safety meetings
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean site with proper signage to ensure a professional image
  • As a working superintendent, perform physical labor as necessary to complete the work efficiently and economically
  • Provide other duties as requested and required
Desired Knowledge / Skills :
  • Years of related experience in a Construction environment
  • College, Technical Degree or Tradesman Certificate
  • Solid understanding of all construction trades and techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and field drawings
  • Up-to-date safety training including Fall Arrest, WHMIS & First Aid
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience managing laborers, sub-trades, and suppliers
  • Ability to make timely and rational decisions under pressure
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Strong attention to detail
Do you have these qualifications and skills?
  • Carpenter-joiner diploma or in architecture
  • 2 or more years’ experience in the commercial construction industry
  • Readiness for teamwork and planning skills
  • Proficiency in reading plans and specs
  • High level of availability and recognized leadership
  • French-English bilingualism, both spoken and written, considered an asset
  • Mobility for various assignments in Quebec and Eastern Ontario, considered an asset
