About the workplace

We are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer with extensive cloud knowledge and skills to work alongside other professionals in this area. You will be responsible for maintaining, enhancing, and securing a cloud platform. You are also expected to maintain the full complement of Observability, Infrastructure as Code tools used within the Vancity Cloud Engineering team.

This is a 6-month contract role that will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location and your Lower Mainland based home office. This role may require you to work in-office at least once a week.

A typical day would involve:

  • Build new Infrastructure as Code solutions as required
  • Actively seek to raise the knowledge bar amongst your Vancity colleagues through casual & ongoing guidance and assistance to your lesser knowledgeable colleagues.
  • Make sense of data through query development, dashboard building & report generation.
  • Monitor & implement IT work orders & incident tickets, action any items within a timely manner as to not breach defined SLA’s
  • Effectively learn & use Vancity’s chosen project management tooling (Azure DevOps)
  • At all times, work within the boundaries of existing Vancity processes (such as change management)
  • In depth knowledge & understanding of the Well Architected Framework principles & methodologies
  • High quality documentation of your work to contribute to the Vancity knowledgebase
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure Vancity retains support 24/7/365
  • At all times work with a “security first” mindset

You have:

  • 5+ years of software development and/or production operations experience
  • Advanced systems level of understanding of Windows/Linux
  • Fundamental network skills
  • Web knowledge (HTTP)
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting tools (Grafana/Splunk)
  • Experience with 24x7 production support and troubleshooting
  • Experience with automating builds and releases (CI,CD), configuration management and infrastructure as code
  • Scripting with PowerShell, Terraform

Bonus points, if you have:

  • Experience with VCS (GIT)
  • Experience with VPC either in Azure (preferred), AWS, GCP
  • Experience with databases (SQL/MySQL)
  • Experience with build and release tools (Azure DevOps)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
  • Experience with microservices and modern container orchestration

  • Full stack developer - who has worked in a Dev/Ops team and are looking for more experience with coding around monitoring, scalability and resiliency.
  • A natural collaborator – you like working with others and consider it an important element of success.
  • Diagnostic Information Gathering - you have the ability to identify the information needed to clarify a situation, seek that information from appropriate sources, and use skillful questioning to draw out the information.
  • Multitasker - you are adaptable with constant changes and see yourself as a constant learner.

The salary range for the role is $81,200 to $122,000. Base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
