Site Maintenance Engineer

The Site Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for the preventative and corrective maintenance of three facilities (two in Winnipeg and one in Carman, MB) and machinery/equipment used in R&D and production processes, ensuring safety and quality in alignment with applicable procedures and policies.

This is a permanent position based at the Smartpark location in Winnipeg, MB, with additional on-site support to the Winnipeg and Carman, MB sites as needed.

What you will do:
  • Ensure proper functioning of all facilities and equipment used for operational processes in controlled environment seed production, specialized R&D, and lab equipment and systems.
  • Develop and implement a robust preventive maintenance program.
  • Conduct and complete maintenance on company facilities and equipment across the three sites, demonstrating ability and working knowledge.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, leveraging internal IT systems (e.g., CMMS – Computerized Maintenance Management Systems). Maintain metrics to drive efficiency.
  • Monitor equipment performance and analyze failure trends to predict and prevent future issues.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to enhance performance or efficiency.
  • Independently troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, or control system issues and perform or oversee repairs to restore equipment to good working condition.
  • Maintain an active inventory of parts, supplies, and tools to meet maintenance needs and equipment uptime objectives.
  • Coordinate with third-party contractors for outside services when required.
  • Comply with all hazardous work permits, including Lock out Tag Out (LOTO), line breaking, fall protection, confined space, and atmospheric monitoring.
  • Create and promote a safe work environment, ensuring all equipment meets or exceeds SSHE and CCOHS requirements.
  • Ensure all maintenance work adheres to safety regulations, industry standards, and internal policies. Conduct risk assessments and implement safety protocols.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Who you are:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid 3rd Class Power Engineer certification, per the Power Engineers’ Act of Manitoba.
  • Proficiency in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and control systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a maintenance engineer in a similar environment.
  • Understanding of geothermal systems.
  • Hands-on mentality with a results-focused approach.
  • Availability to work 40 hours/week with overtime when needed.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 60 pounds.
  • Experience demonstrating creativity, outcome focus, co-creation with customers, collaboration with accountability, adaptability, and inclusiveness.
