Job summary

First Nations Engineering Services Ltd. seeks a Site Inspector to ensure construction work meets safety and quality standards. You will monitor progress, read plans and specs, and prepare detailed inspection reports on site.

The role requires a Diploma in Engineering Design or Civil Engineering Technology, strong communication, and travel within Ontario. A valid G-class license is advantageous for off-site assignments.

Qualifications

  • Diploma inEngineering Design or Civil Engineering Technology required.
  • Ontario placements may be across remote locations, including Northern Ontario.
  • Strong communication and writing skills are required.
  • Experience as a site inspector or similar role is advantageous.
  • Valid G-class Ontario driver’s license and ability to travel within Ontario.

  • Monitor contractor progress and report issues on site.
  • Prepare daily and weekly construction reports and logs.

Job description

Reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Project Engineer, however, is under the direct supervision of the Senior Staff Member to be determined pending the project during the performance of their duties. A site inspector is responsible for ensuring that all work carried out on a construction site adheres to safety and quality standards. They monitor the building process, ensuring that building plans and specifications are being followed correctly. Having the ability to work with a contractor site supervisor over long periods of time and manage conflicts and concerns as they arise.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Site Inspector will be expected to perform general duties relating to asset management, as well as other technical functions as assigned.

  • Perform related responsibilities such as the following:
  • Ability and knowledge to read plans, blueprints, specifications, codes, shop drawings, submittals, procedures, reports, memos, status reports, contractor's minimum days, delay days, change order days and all correspondence between the architect, engineer, testing agencies, and the contractor.
  • Monitors and reports on the contractor’s progress and problems as it relates to the job site.
  • Establish and maintain project files, submittals, daily and weekly construction reports.
  • Check and verify all materials and equipment used and stored by the contractor are in accordance with the drawings, specifications, and approvals. Check and verify all materials used in site construction against submittals and check and verify the installation of approved materials and equipment.
  • Verify contractor follows all codes, regulations, site materials, plans, specifications, commissioning of systems, sketches, actual construction, alterations, repairs, improvements, reports, change orders, and safety.
  • Monitoring of work performed on the site by conducting inspections at critical phases of construction, preparing detailed written inspection reports, identifying deficient work and the necessary follow up.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with regulations Checks that the contractor is maintaining a safe work site and document accordingly.
  • Attends site meetings with the contractors on a regular basis and project meetings as required with the client project team.Ability to issue written instructions to contractors when work does not comply with the approved drawings and specifications.

Education, Experience & Qualifications
  • This position involves placements across Ontario, which may include remote placements within Northern Ontario.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
  • Ability to manage staff and subcontractors.
  • Excellent communication skills. Writing, verbal communication skills, and technical writing skills are required.
  • Proven experience as a site inspector or similar role will be an asset.
  • Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Responsible and trustworthy.
  • Ability to prioritize workloads, planning and management skills to adhere to strict timelines.
  • Surveying skills.
  • Microsoft Office knowledge and ability to use pdf software
  • Any certificates in construction Safety or Health are an asset.
  • Minimum completion of a Diploma in Engineering Design or Civil Engineering Technology from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • C.E.T. designation is an asset.
  • Experience in a consulting engineering environment undertaking site inspection for civil infrastructure projects or related field will be an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing documentation including daily logs, photographic records, requests for information, change orders, and deficiency lists.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Desire for continued learning and innovation.
  • Focus on providing outstanding service to clients.
  • Personal vehicle and valid ‘G’ Class Ontario driver’s license and ability to travel within Ontario.
