Job Title: Site Engineering – Commissioning Coordination

Overview:
The Engineer is a professional engineer or geoscientist who applies engineering knowledge to provide engineering, estimating, planning, and quality management services for medium complexity projects and/or operations safely, with quality, within budget, and on time.

What you will be doing:

  • Prepare and gather multi-disciplinary commissioning test plans and summary of requirements documentation.

  • Develop Commissioning Plans then coordinate testing/commissioning and assure that the outages, people and documentation are in place to execute the test program for Lower Mainland projects.

  • At the heart of the construction and commissioning, you use your technical expertise in electrical equipment, protection and control (P&C) , construction and testing to get answers to complex technical queries and problems by bringing design engineers and contractors together to keep construction and commissioning on track.

  • Develop and oversee all technical aspects of field engineering for construction and commissioning of new electrical and P&C equipment. This includes, but is not limited to switchgear, reactive equipment installation including power transformers, electrical equipment protection, unit control and monitoring, communication networks, and instrumentation systems.

  • Provide support for Field Testers and Communications, Protection and Control (CPC) field technologists and perform field reviews for P&C and electrical equipment installations and modifications.

  • Perform first-level quality assurance to confirm that the execution of work is in accordance with the plans, specifications, drawings, and industry standards – the work adheres to accepted engineering practice.

  • Prepare or review/accept inspection test plans for factory acceptance test and site acceptance test

  • Ensure that tests and inspections are performed, witnessed, and documented in accordance with approved procedures and contract requirements. You do the field review as POR’s delegate, or you coordinate witness and hold points for critical components and document these activities in field review records.

  • Maintain strong relationships and liaise with different discipline design engineering staff, both to conduct field review and to organize timely resolution of technical issues. You sort out non-compliance issues in the field by bringing design and construction people together.

  • Organizes the accumulation of assigned discipline technical information (redlined construction drawings, RFIs, non-conformance reports). Then synthesize this into the construction report telling the construction story.

  • This role requires experience with the design of electrical utility substations with operating voltages from 12kV to 500kV and demonstrated experience working with utility design solutions a in an electric utility environment.

  • This position is needed to help with an increasing work load in capital project, emergency replacement and restoration work, asset management strategic OMA work programs and Owners Engineer review work.

  • Prepare project documentation and deliverables in accordance with the companyproject and Engineering Design Practices (i.e. evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis’, calculations, hazard logs, test plans).

  • Prepare design work packages including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates

  • Prepare signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and company Design Practices.

  • Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field, and undertake field reviews as required by EGBC.

  • Design for the following Electrical Systems related to Transmission Stations:

    • Ground Grid

    • Site Layout and equipment clearances

    • Control, feeder and compressor buildings

    • Electrical equipment supports

  • Perform various engineering calculations: short-circuit forces, ampacity, cable design, lightning protection, voltage drop, indoor and outdoor lighting, etc.

What you must have:

  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC or with another jurisdiction and eligible for registration as such with Engineers & Geoscientists BC

  • The company uses a Digital Sign and Seal Technology. You may be required to subscribe to a digital seal technology service offered by Notarius

  • Intermediate English skills for professional environment, written and spoken

  • Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards

  • Ability to use standard industry design/analysis software

  • Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

  • Ability to provide technical directions to junior engineers

  • Ability to manage design tasks including scope, schedule and cost

  • Ability to find engineering solutions that add value and to reach consensus

  • Ability to communicate efficiently including verbal and technical writing in the English language, analytical, interpersonal communications and presentation skills

  • Experience in project management including estimating, cost control and project administration

Salary/Rate Range: $76.00 – $93.00 per hour

Term: 12-month contract; most likely to extend
