Reporting to the Finance and Administration team, this individual will oversee the day-to-day processing of payroll for approximately 350 hourly and salaried employees across several Alberta locations. In addition to maintaining regular payroll operations, the successful candidate will play an important role in reviewing employee records, supporting benefits administration, and ensuring payroll information is accurate as the organization moves through a system transition.

This opportunity is well suited to an experienced payroll professional who is comfortable taking ownership of a function, working with limited direction, and quickly getting up to speed in a fast-paced environment.

  • Calculate vacation entitlements, retroactive payments, and other payroll-related adjustments.
  • Perform payroll reconciliations and prepare required CRA remittances and General Ledger reporting.
  • Assist with group benefits administration, including employee enrolments, coverage changes, and payroll deductions.
  • Audit existing payroll and benefits information, addressing discrepancies and outstanding updates.
  • Establish and maintain clear payroll documentation and organized employee records.
  • Ensure payroll practices align with applicable provincial employment legislation and federal tax requirements.
  • Safeguard sensitive employee information and maintain appropriate confidentiality at all times.
Experience & Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of hands-on Canadian payroll administration experience, preferably supporting a multi-location workforce of 200 or more employees.
  • Solid understanding of Alberta employment standards, payroll legislation, and CRA remittance requirements.
  • Familiarity with Axon payroll software would be considered a strong asset.
  • Exposure to payroll within oil and gas, energy services, transportation, or trucking environments is beneficial.
  • PCP certification or relevant post-secondary education is an advantage.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time-sensitive payroll cycles with accuracy.
  • Comfortable working autonomously and stepping into an established function with minimal training.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to liaise with employees and operational leaders across different locations.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and discretion when working with confidential information.
  • Full-time weekday schedule, Monday to Friday.
  • On-site attendance required in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.
  • Hourly compensation to be discussed.
  • Opportunity to contribute to a busy finance and administration team during an important period of transition.
