TITLE: Simulation Technologist

DIVISION: Centres for Community Services & Health Sciences

SALARY: Payband J, starting rate $42.56 per hour

HOURS: Tuesday to Saturday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

HOURS PER WEEK: 40

LOCATION: 51 Dockside Drive

STATUS: Full Time Support

EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediately

Position Summary:
The incumbent will provide a practical student-centered learning environment by preparing the low-fidelity and high-fidelity settings for respective sessions across nine different programs across the college. The incumbent also prepares the Centre for use by external entities as required (rental opportunities). The incumbent will continually refine skill sets in new techniques, approaches, and modalities in simulation as it evolves. The incumbent may help plan, design, and organize simulation sessions in a controlled applied learning environment (Simulation Centre) by providing logistical, technical and software support to faculty and staff when utilizing the Simulation Centre.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and maintains classrooms, lab rooms, high-fidelity simulation suites, e-home and Operating Room with equipment, manikins, supplies, and simulated fluids for use in demonstrations.
  • Provides alignment of equipment/manikins to learning objectives reflected in high-fidelity simulation scenarios.
  • Participates in user acceptance training of all new scenarios prior to their implementation.
  • Assists the Academic Coordinator to plan, design and organize simulation sessions.
  • Provides software, audio/video and manikin orientation and support to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Collaborates with Academic Coordinator to determine equipment, supplies, and disposable requirements for the high-fidelity simulation area.
  • Set-up of high-fidelity environment to the pertinent and relevant scenarios that are being utilized for specific programs.
  • Creation and ongoing development of simulated medications and custom patient health information for high fidelity and skills acquisition labs.
  • Troubleshoots all technical and mechanical deficiencies and issues with all equipment, technology, and software in the Simulation Centre.
  • Role plays patients during high-fidelity simulation sessions.
  • Knowledge of web-design and computer coding to support equipment and software.
  • Participates in research projects being conducted by faculty or staff as required aligning to Centre’s vision.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Three-year diploma or degree or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution in Information Technology, Healthcare Discipline, Electronics.
  • Acquisition/maintenance of the Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist designation from the Society of Simulation in Healthcare (CHSOS) is preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a healthcare education role with exposure to high-fidelity simulation.

  • Excellent time and project management skills; ability to coordinate, prioritize and multi-task.
  • Ability to lift over 20 kg or 44 lbs (i.e., storage bins, patient manikins, hospital beds, equipment carts, etc.).
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, collaboration, and teamwork skills at a professional level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College’s priorities on diversity and equity.

Interview process may consist of a practical skills component.
