PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Specialist Signals and Communications Tunnel Electrical, plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless operation, maintenance, and repair of tunnel electrical systems. In this key position, you will lead and manage the electrical transmission and control systems for the MacDonald, Connaught, and Shaughnessy tunnels. With a 24/7 on-call responsibility, you will provide essential support to maintain continuous operations and address urgent infrastructure needs.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, service, and repair industrial electrical systems and equipment, including hardware for system supervision, electrical controls, power substations, tunnels, and associated switchgear and power infrastructure components
  • Install, position, and maintain distribution and control systems such as switches, lighting fixtures, conduits, electrical controls, relays, circuit breaker panels, switchgear, and fuse enclosures
  • Interpret and analyze blueprints for electrical circuits related to construction, maintenance, tunnels, and infrastructure projects
  • Adhere to safety procedures for electrical isolation and maintenance tasks.
  • Plan and install various electrical circuits in accordance with residential and commercial building standards
  • Comply with safety standards for all electrical installation activities
  • Perform dynamic assessments of tunnel operations requirements and assist with role coordination and improvements in collaboration with the Tunnel Management team
  • Operate common hand and power tools safely and effectively

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or general equivalency
  • Licensed electrician (Red Seal) in the province of British Columbia
  • Proficient knowledge in high voltage 4160V/7.2KV/34.5KV, primary power and all types of insulation and wiring
  • Must have expert and practical knowledge of 480, 600, 240/208/120 Volts Alternating Current single and three phase systems
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license and/or Class 3 with air brake endorsement
  • Acquire and hold a Canadian Railway Operating Rules card, minimum level “D”
  • Previous work history providing the ability to attain a Field Safety Representative-A ticket (Master Electrician) is an asset
  • Knowledge of all relevant industry codes including the Canadian Electrical Code

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
