Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Signaling and Communications Engineer in Canada to lead the design of railway signaling systems, including trackside, wayside, and control room equipment. You will engineer CBI software configurations and deliver complete projects with cross-functional teams across offices and sites.

The role requires 5+ years in rail signaling, CROR knowledge, and experience integrating systems in transit facilities.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of rail and transit signaling experience.
  • Experience designing and selecting signalling system components; conventional signalling prerequisite.
  • Knowledge of CROR and Canadian Grade Crossing Standards.
  • Ability to collaborate with clients, partners, suppliers, and internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design complete railway signaling systems including trackside and control rooms.

  • Deliver vendor-delivered train control and signaling projects.
  • Integrate signaling systems with stations, substations, depots and control centres.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders (architects, AHJs, suppliers).
  • Prepare technical specifications, vendor selection, and interface control documentation.
  • Support construction, installation, testing, commissioning and handover.

We are looking for a Signaling and Communications Engineer.

Overview

We are looking for a Signaling and Communications Engineer.

As a member of the team, you will provide technical expertise to develop various signaling designs while working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams on projects.

Your role
  • Design of complete railway signalling systems, including trackside, wayside, signal room, and control room equipment.
  • Design and configuration of Computer-Based Interlocking (CBI) application software.
  • Technical delivery of vendor-delivered train control and signalling system projects.
  • Integration of train control and signalling systems with stations, traction power substations, depots, and control centres.
  • Coordination with internal design, domain, and requirements teams, as well as external stakeholders (communications, architecture, AHJs, suppliers).
  • Procurement and documentation support, including technical specifications, vendor selection, and design/construction/interface control documentation.
  • Support through construction, installation, testing, commissioning, and operational handover, including interaction with operations and maintenance teams.
About You
  • PEO or APEGA licensed or eligible, with 5+ years of rail and transit signaling experience.
  • Experience designing and selecting signalling system components, with conventional signalling as a prerequisite.
  • Knowledge of multiple grade crossing, and CBI platforms, with strong knowledge of CROR and Canadian Grade Crossing Standards.
  • Experience integrating signalling systems into transit facilities, vehicles, and multidisciplinary project environments is considered an asset.
  • Strong documentation skills, including preparation of design drawings, technical requirements, and specifications.; Ability to work on multiple projects, collaborate with clients, partners, suppliers, and support technical teams; Self-motivated, adaptable, willing to work across office and field environments, and travel to project and vendor sites as required.
