Job summary

Gerdau Whitby is seeking a Copper Picker to support production operations in Whitby, Ontario. The role involves hand-picking copper bearings, wires, and related materials, operating mobile equipment, and monitoring production equipment to help maintain uptime.

You will work 8-hour rotating shifts (afternoons and nights) and be expected to perform duties in a labour-intensive environment. A high school diploma is required; strong attendance and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–3 years in heavy industrial or manufacturing preferred.
• Able to work 8-hour rotating shifts.
• Strong attendance and work ethic.

Responsibilities

• Hand pick copper components and related materials, placing them into containers.
• Operate and inspect mobile equipment.
• Monitor and report operating conditions of production equipment.
• Complete checklists and care documents for assigned tasks.
• Work primarily in a standing/static position; rotating shifts.
• Follow safety guidelines while operating mobile equipment.
• Assist in maintenance and tasks to support production efficiency and uptime.
• Assist with plant housekeeping and other duties as required.

Main Responsibilities

• Hand pick items such as copper bearings, wire harnesses, rags, dirt, rubber, foam, etc. place into separate containers
• Operate and routine inspection of mobile equipment.
• Monitor and report operating condition of production equipment, as required.
• Complete and submit checklists or equipment care documents associated with assigned task(s)
• Job performed primarily in standing/static position
• Rotating shiftwork
• Wearing heavy clothing, as required and job appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
• Assist in maintenance planned/unplanned tasks as required
• Assist in tasks to support production efficiencies and up time
• Assist with plant housekeeping efforts and perform other duties and work assignments as required and directed. When operating mobile equipment follow all prescribed safety guidelines
• Perform daily checks to ensure equipment is maintained in proper working order.
• Working at heights
• Working in adverse weather conditions.

What you have

• Ability to work 8-hour rotating shifts between afternoons & nights
• Must have a high school diploma/GED
• Must be able to work in a team environment and communicate effectively
• Must have good attendance and work ethic
• Must be physically able to perform in a labour-intensive environment
• Must have 1 - 3 years of Heavy Industrial or Manufacturing
